昨日のメルボルンは38℃の猛暑でした。今日は30℃まで気温が下がり、昨日よりは過ごしやすいです。
昨日はあまりの暑さに冷たいものが食べたくなって、ジェラートのお店に行きました。ここは注文を受けてからジェラートを作ってくれるので、できたてのものを食べることができます。
お店の名前は｢Nitro Lab｣、日本語に訳すと｢窒素研究所｣になります。液体窒素を使って瞬時にジェラートを作るのです。
ライチー＆ライムのジェラートとマンゴー・ジェラートを注文しました。
ジェラートの素 (液体) を白い機械の中に入れ、スイッチを入れます。そして透明な液体 (液体窒素)を入れます。そうすると白い煙がモクモクと立ち込め、辺り一面が真っ白になります。まるで理科の実験のようです。
この工程の写真撮影はNGだったので、白い煙が立つところだけ写真を撮らせていただきました。
あっという間にジェラートのできあがりです。左がマンゴージェラート、右がライチとライムのジェラートです。できたてのジェラートは格別に美味しく、食べている間は暑さが吹き飛んでいきました。
余談ですが、オーストラリアではライチを栽培しているので、こちらでは生のライチを食べることができます。
私の娘はヌテラ・クレープを注文しました。ヌテラ (Nutella) はイタリア発祥のチョコレート風味の甘いスプレッドです。現在、世界75ヶ国で発売されています。
ヌテラはとても甘いですが、パン、パンケーキ、クレープと何でも合います。
クリスマスバージョンのヌテラの瓶です。ちなみに日本で売っているヌテラはオーストラリア産です。
自宅でもできたてのアイスクリームやジェラートを食べることができたらいいなと思いましたが、液体窒素を手に入れるのは難しそうです。
