After a failed Urbex (which I have still to write up), @for91days, @wanderein, and @jpphotography and ME were all quite hungry.
We had been roaming the streets for hours looking for somewhere cheap to eat.
Bypassing McDonald's with its strange Thai offerings we found this restaurant with an unpronounceable name.
After a little information from a local (thanks @waybeyondpadthai), I found it to be named อร่อยเด็ด and what's more, it now shows on the map so I can now add it to @tasteem correctly.
AROI DED means SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS - @waybeyondpadthai
Super Delicious? That depends if you like gorging on leather...
This was cheap, 60 BAHT being the most expensive dish that I could find when looking at the blurb posted on the sign outside.
It was time to get a feel of some basic food.
While I was mucking about taking photographs of the chef, the others settled down inside.
It’s always good to see what’s cooking and what he’s going to be feeding us.
While some bloke is waving a fist at @for91days, he seems generally unperturbed, bored and nonchalant about the chinning he may shortly receive; the others even less so with big smiles.
It turned out he was taking the drinks order.
The restaurant was far from busy, this dude was a customer and as usual, perplexed at me taking restaurant photographs.
I would not expect air conditioning in this kind of place, but it was not uncomfortable though the wooden seating could have been better.
It was somewhat hard on the bum.
This was the extent of the menu. I ordered an Orange Juice at 25 BHAT while the others settled for Water and Ice (10 BHAT).
I’m not a great love of plain white rice but felt the need to try the authentic stuff several times while in Thailand.
I indulged in the most expensive dish of Fried Pork Rice while the others all opted for Beef Noodles at 35 BAHT (did they know something I didn’t?)
A few minutes later I was presented with these strips of meat. They look like bacon but were thicker and tough to eat.
The sauce dish of sweet chilly or similar was welcome or I wouldn’t have been able to eat that rice.
I found it relatively tasteless and figured they may have served me some old boot leather by mistake. I did eat it, but only due to severe hunger.
I left over half of the rice, I don't know how people can eat plain rice!
The Beef Noodles looked a lot tastier and I heard no complaints from my companions.
They all looked to finish theirs with little or nothing left in the dishes.
We had to pass the chef again when exiting. He looked less happy now, I wonder if he read my mind?
80 BAHT is $2.80 (or £2.10) and so you get what you pay for. It filled a hole but did nothing more.
I feel there are better places if only I had found them.

There are many good places in BKK but you will need an insider to take you there. Its a good review...I miss some typical Thai noodles too.

I felt I missed most of them, would have liked more time to explore the city. It was all so rushed.

Noodles always be good "runaway" from rice :D
Usually, side dish for rice serve with spicy taste. If there is no "good side dish" soo you will hate rice ever. :)

Love noodles, especially spicy ones.
I don't hate rice, more find it mundane and hard to eat. Special rice is completely different, I can eat that straight.

That's too bad that it didn't live up to the name. The beef noodles do look really good. I probably would have gotten the same thing you did just on name alone.

It was cheap, you get what you pay for I guess.

I remember the noodles were good especially for the price. And the Urbex wasn't a total failure, you found another place that day :)

With you all getting the same food I thought you may have been there before, or knew what to order. That Urbex trip needs writing up, though I have another one from last summer ready to go first.

Yes, it's likely Fillet Steak and Chips with all the trimmings served with cold beer, if I only had a translator!

Hehe, it's always grim return you have simply no clue what a menu claims or you see all the locals eating amazing stuff and you get served nonsense
