Taberna La Cepa - A Tasteem Review

I find the most innocuous eateries are some of the best. Take Taberna La Cepa, in the middle of nowhere on the volcanic blackened island of Lanzarote.

We had gone for an all-inclusive holiday but when travelling you don't have much choice than to 'pay twice' eating wherever you travel, that is unless you want to spend ALL your holiday holed up at the hotel.

IMG_0739.JPG

Our stop at Taberna La Cepa was one of these times. Perched on a mountain opposite a winery which I’m sure is part of the same business, we parked up noticing the copious tourists already drinking and eating.

IMG_0723.JPG

’this was no fancy place, just a stop off for a sandwich’

We sat inside as it was a little chilly in the shade, not to mention breezy. I noticed the name of the menu was not the same as the restaurant name?

IMG_0729.JPG

’Bodega la geria’

That is a restaurant name right and not something else? My Spanish is almost non-existent I’m ashamed to admit.

IMG_0730.JPG

Maybe the restaurant had recently had a name change or someone was taking the piss and had switched the menus around?

IMG_0731.JPG

I didn’t ask what looked to be the owner, though I’m sure he would have explained.

IMG_0725.JPG

The menu looked quite dull; I quickly discarded it and looked at what was on offer at the counter in plain visible view to my eyes.

IMG_0735.JPG

The croissant with ham and cheese looked tasty and @bingbabe honed in on the paella, a dish she loves being rice-based.

IMG_0724.JPG

We asked for them to be heated and in no time at all had some coffee and the food was presented to us.

IMG_0734.JPG

There’s something about this island, its independent little café’s and restaurants that I have fallen in love with.

IMG_0732.JPG

Why does everything taste so good and yet when I eat out in my local area in the UK, everything is so bland, boring not to mention expensive?

IMG_0733.JPG

The croissant was fantastic, the cheese oozing out between the bread filling my taste buds with a little heaven. @bingbabe was equally warm about the Paella enthusiastically telling me it was. ’like eating in the Philippines

IMG_0727.JPG

We didn’t stay long in Taberna La Cepa as we didn’t need too; the service was so quick and the likely owner extremely friendly.

IMG_0738.JPG

Add the lovely views if you want to sit outside and you get yourself a wonderful stopover for the hungry.

IMG_0736.JPG

For just 12 Euros we were content for our next step of the tourist traps of Lanzarote, next up being Jameous Del Agua.

IMG_0726.JPG

If you hadn’t already figured it out, I’m giving my full thumbs up to Taberna La Cepa, a lovely little café to stop at in times of mountain traipsing for the hungry on a budget.

So you visited the Jamon of agua! Did you like it?

I would say it would be quite a bad place for screaming nippers, that said.. I saw none of those. I do intend to make it a separate post so won't say much more! Did you go?

Nah, did it all before when we were kid free. The only thing we did this time was the volcano the rest was finding half decent beaches for my daughter to swim in. She is quite brave, the water was freezing and sometimes wild

Hope you found Famara beach, that wild one.. full of surfers but golden instead of the usual black.

Darn, no! We were quite restricted with the kids in the distance we could travel. I am not going to say they were a millstone around my neck...

Quite a cool location to eat out. Can they use the volcano heat for cooking? We had some food at a Maori village in New Zealand that was done that way. The price seems okay as tourist places can be a rip-off.

Not to my knowledge, it's high but not atop a volcano. Didn't know you had been to NZ, a place that is about as far away as we can get.

That was a long way, but we took a month to visit Japan, Australia and NZ. Had a great time, but not sure we'll be able to do anything like that again soon.

I went to Oz for 3 days.., yes.. a long way to go for that amount of time. Talk about having a screwed up clock!

I went to LA for a meeting once. That was bad enough. We got some serious jet lag on the flight out to Tokyo, but after that we were not changing timezones so much.

It looks a bit desserted at the cafe, though the views outside is fantastic. What are those semi circle stone thingy?

What are those semi circle stone thingy?

I think that's the grapes growing in those, we bought some wine from the store next to the restaurant.., haven't opened it yet. Hope it doesn't taste horrible.

ah yes, I see them on the menu now. Mmmm... wonder if the soil around the area will give the wine a different taste

That ham and cheese croissant looks tasty!

Those sandwiches look pretty awesome. I am not usually the sort to crave a sandwich place, but there are times that something so simple can be so good. Like a ham and swiss for example. Great stuff!

I wish I could find local place as good. We went out yesterday, spent almost £50 and it sucked (inc review).

Price does not reflect quality at all, it's a gamble trying new ones.

We have the typical chain sandwich shops and then we have a couple of really great private ones. The problem with them is the prices are so high.

i like your post @slobberchops
