High tea in Toronto

High tea and all the yummy, self indulgent finger treats that go along with it!, is there a better way to spend an afternoon?. A purely rhetorical question ofc, especially when it’s at the historic Old Mill Inn and Spa in Toronto 🙂

The Old Mill has been around since the 1900’s, and you’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful setting for high tea. I had often passed it on my walks but never ventured inside. My girlfriends and I finally got around to splurging on high tea, and what an experience it was!.

We started by ordering tea from the amazing selection on hand. I opted for Kyoto Cherry Rose, a delicate green tea with hints of cherry (the name kinda gives it away 😝), while my girlfriends had a Darjeeling black and a Chamomile tea.

The little finger eats were next and we were transported to foodie nirvana! There were delicate, wafer thin sandwiches, salmon pinwheels and a flaky, melt in your mouth croissant with an amazing egg salad stuffing. It was a tough act to follow but the scones were delicious! We had a selection of jams (raspberry, strawberry and marmalade), and Devonshire double cream for toppings. We finished off all that buttery goodness with some Battenberg cake, shortbread and a strawberry dipped in chocolate!

The tea was topped up constantly and we ended up spending a good couple of hours before calling it a day.

We took a stroll through the gardens to work off some off that food (who am I kidding here!, it was just curiosity about the surroundings 😀). We tried our best not to photo bomb any of the weddings taking place at the Old Mill and dragged ourselves back to the car.

We passed the tennis courts on our way back home and I had a brief moment of guilt at all the calories consumed, but pushed that thought back to the far recesses of my mind and weighed in on the heated debate of whether the scones had an egg wash pre baking or not!

At 30$ per person (pre tax), this is an experience definitely worth trying out! Your waistline might not thank you for it but it’s an amazing experience.
