Tata Salt was the first brand in India to ensure that their product has the proper amount of iodine, an essential element in the human diet. Even after being a reputed brand when it comes to food-grade salt, their name was dragged into an ungainly controversy recently.
There were rumours spread over the internet that their product consists of cyanide. As a result, they were losing their credibility.
However, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India confirmed that Tata salt is entirely safe. Further, they clarified that it is not cyanide but Potassium Ferrocyanide ( PFC) is supposed to be added in salts as they act as anti-caking agents to prevent the accumulation of granulated ingredients in the product. It is safe to consume potassium ferrocyanide as long as the amount is within permitted limits.
Lab reports published by the American West Analytical Laboratories have indicated that the level of ferrocyanide in Indian food-grade salts is much below the approved FSSAI limit. However, rumours do not wait for confirmation. False information spreads rapidly, and so it did this time around as well. The “fake news” was all over social media and consumers started doubting their product.
To resolve this issue, the FSSAI published the updated information on their official Twitter account. The allegations turned out to be incorrect, and they also added that the use of PFC as a food additive is allowed in several countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, China, the United States and India. Only this time, Tata Salt was targeted by some individuals.

This was not a first; “fake news” has become a trend recently. Many reputed brands have faced similar incidents. Fortunately, this time, the allegations were proved wrong promptly.
All the charges against Tata Salt product started disappearing eventually. Hence, it can be claimed without a shred of doubt that Tata Salt has made no blunders in their manufacturing procedure, and their product is entirely safe for daily consumption.
