Just like every other 20-something who is into tattoos, the singer started out relatively tame, getting a simple music note on her right wrist in February 2012. Since, she has been working her way up to a whooping nine pieces of ink (that we know of). All of the tattoos are reflective of Selena's unique personal style.

Selena's very first tattoo was a musical note on her right wrist. Selena got the tattoo at Under The Gun in Hollywood, CA by artist Louie Gomez. The tattoo came shortly after Selena announced that she would be taking a break from music to spend most of 2012 focusing on her acting career. When asked about the meaning by E! Online, she told “I was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez and music obviously is a big influence for me. And there’s music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too.” She also says this one is special because she writes music with her right hand.

Her second tattoo is a Roman numeral on the back of her neck, which translates to the number 76. It is believed to be in honor of her mother, who was born in 1976. She got it done in September 2012.

Project Semicolon is “a movement dedicated to presenting hope & love to those who struggle with mental illness, suicide, addiction, & self-injury" that went viral in 2013 thanks to Amy Bleuel, who got the punctuation mark inked in honor of her father, whom she lost to suicide. Since then, thousands of people all over the world have gone on to get identical tattoos.
