Donating towards charity and needy people is a very noble act. Most of us at some point in our lives, would have considered to do our bit of the society by giving to a charity, an old age home or any other NGO in India. It is a commendable thing to make a donation for a cause and honestly work with a positive thought that our act of charity will make a difference in other’s lives. Some people do it out of generosity and some people do it to add goodwill in their lives.

In order to encourage charitable contributions to improve the condition of people hailing from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, the Indian Government has made deductions available for donors under section 80G of Income-tax Act, 1961, who donate towards registered charitable organizations. The donor can claim IT exemption of 100% or 50% of the donation amount depending upon the criteria set by the Income Tax Act.
