I will argue and die on the hill that she is one of the greatest artists of all time.
Obviously I’m going to come off as biased because I am a huge fan. And you don’t have to like her music obviously, but if you deny her genius and talent, you are just trying to put things down that are popular, and it’s annoying. Popular things aren’t popular because they are bad, they are popular because they are good and cater to a large audience.
Her numbers speak for themselves. She’s outsells and outperforms pretty much every single artist in the world.
She has won 3 albums of the years at the Grammys, the only other people to do that is Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon. She is the only woman to have done it.
Her song writing is why she is famous. No she isn’t Adele or Whitney Houston when it comes to vocals, but she has a lovely lower register. It’s her song writing where she shines. (And she writes or is the main writer on every single one of her songs unlike most artists today) And if you’ve only heard the most popular hits, of course you’re not going to think that, but to have produced so many number ones is insanely impressive, even if you don’t like pop music. Taylor Swift knows how to write a hit.
Her music encompasses girlhood/womanhood. It’s not about sex or partying. It’s about feeling shame for a man taking advantage of you at 19. It’s about the crush you had in high school. It’s about being betrayed by someone close to you. It’s about being in love and those amazing feelings that come with it. It’s about daydreaming of revenge. It’s about everything!
Her songs on her albums Folklore and Evermore are her magnum opus of song writing.
She really gives her fans so much music and the lore behind all her music is so fun. She leaves Easter eggs in music videos, Instagram posts, etc keeping fans engaged. Being a fan of Taylor Swift is actually so fun.
So while many may think she’s mediocre, the proof is in the pudding, she is far from it. She is excellent.
