History of Tea

Tea used first as a medicine, then spreads strongly in the world as beverage. So far as it is known, probably tea was first used in China. There is a legend in China about tea. The narrative is that, in 495 CE, there is the death of Bodhisattvata in China. Bodhisattva is the saint of knowledge. He used to meditate maximum time of the day. Once sitting in meditation, he was felling so sleepy and couldn't concentrate meditation. Then he suddenly stood up and cut two eyelids and dropped it on the ground. A tree was grown up from the eyelids on the ground. One day, Bodhisattva consumed some leaves from that tree. After this his sleep went away, he became concentrated on meditation. Then he told the disciples about the quality of that tree and suggest them to eat. And that was the tea tree. World number one popular beverage.

This tea is very likely to be used during the Chinese philosopher Confucius, in the 550th century BC. In 793 CE Govt. fixed a tax on tea. In the 9th century, tea from China reached in Japan, but the Japanese started cultivating it in 1206 AD. China also claims that 5000 years ago Srut Sinang was promotion tea.

Tea went to Europe through the Dutch in the 16th century. But there are odds about this matter. However, tea reached England in the 17th century. The first tea shop was building in London in 1659. In 1664, the British East India Company gifts two pounds n 2 ounces of tea to Charles II. That time the tea price was 40 pounds per ounce. In 1677, the company was exporting tea from China on commercial basis. After that tea was completely dependent on China.

In order to remain not dependent on China, in 1780 experimental tea plants were made in Keed's own garden. The garden is now known as the Botanical Garden of Calcutta. Keed told the company that Shivpura is not a suitable place for tea. Then by 1819-1821 tea plants were found in Assam and Manipur. In 1835, Tea tree was planted in Assam for experimental purposes. In 1838, he was sent tea to England as a sample. In India, the East India Company made it popular by consuming a free tea with milk and sugar.
