Online Teacher from South Africa - Self introduction

I am a teacher in South Africa. For many years (22 in fact) teaching has been part of my life, I have always thought that teaching was the greatest profession of all. The interaction with the kids, the actual teaching and then the psychology behind being a teacher. I started teaching at the mere age of 22. (Now you can work out my age)

I started teaching in an environment before children were made aware of all their rights. In those days, children were wrong and the teacher was right. Today we have an awful lot of obedient parents and not so many obedient children. Parents blame teachers for bad marks, instead of blaming their own child.

I enjoyed teaching so much until I realized that I was a magnet for problem children/children with problems. I even have an attraction to problem parents. I was good at handling these issues, but started losing myself, under all the sorrow and stress that I pulled into my own world.
I then realised that because I am an open minded person, I should start searching for alternative solutions to my profession. I still wanted to teach, as this was a constant in my life, and I never wanted to give up teaching. I truly think it defines me as a person.

My husband was transferred to a part of the country where I was not able to obtain a post at a school. I went to all the schools in the area, 9 in fact, and could not find a post. I was so discouraged. I felt helpless and sad, because there was nothing I could do to solve this problem.
I started searching online, and discovered an online school. How amazing is this? Who ever thought that schooling was possible through the internet? I sent them an email and asked if there were any job openings.

Went for an interview, and voila I got the job. What a revolution!!!! How lucky could I be? I believe that this job has opened doors for me that I did not know existed.

I have a wonderful teaching job. I absolutely love it, and I do it from my own home in my pajamas. I don’t have to drive to school, or even dress up to impress anyone. Now I can focus on the actual content and not be interrupted all the time. For the first time in 22 years, I am happy, I am teaching and I am content. I love my kids, and we communicate daily through various platforms. I still know about their issues, but I do not feel so involved anymore. The main focus is to teach. I am now an online teacher.
