Hello Steemit Team and fellow learners,

I am very much excited to apply for a position as a Teaching Team member in Season 23 of the Steemit Learning Challenge. I want to run a course regarding my field Pharmacy. As a fourth-semester Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) student, I have a strong grip on the basics in pharmacology, drug safety, and medication use.

Through this course, I want to provide valuable insights and knowledge into the practical aspects of pharmacology that everyone can apply in their daily lives. We all know that the basic knowledge of the drugs is a very need of our society in this era where the misuses of drugs are very common and sometimes it can also lead to the irreversible effects. So, let's explore what I have cooked for this course.

Aims of This Course

There are certain aims that I have in my mind regarding this course. Some of them are,

  • To provide a fundamental understanding of pharmacology in a simple and engaging way.

  • I want to educate participants on the safe and effective use of medications in daily life.

  • I want to raise awareness about drug interactions, side effects, and safety of drugs.

  • To help the individuals make informed decisions about OTC and prescriptive medicines.

  • To clarify the misconceptions about herbal and alternative medicines using scientific evidences.

  • Last but not the least, to reduce the medication errors by promoting safe medication practices.

Three Weeks Homework Plan

Lesson 1: Introduction to Drugs & Their Classifications

Lecture:

  • Introduction to drug and it's history.
  • The difference between the prescriptive drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, and controlled substances.
  • General drug classifications (painkillers, antibiotics, antipyretics, etc.).
  • Importance of understanding drug labels and their components.

Homework Tasks:

  • Identify the three medications you commonly use and categorize them.
  • Share any personal experience with OTC medications and how they helped you.
  • Analyze a drug label and summarize its key details (also share your own images of the labels.)
  • Research and explain the significance of expiry dates on medications.

Lesson 2: How Medications Work in the Body (Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics)

Lecture:

  • How the body absorbs, distributes, metabolizes, and eliminates drugs (Pharmacokinetics).
  • The concept of drug onset, peak, and duration of action.
  • Factors affecting drug metabolism (age, genetics, liver/kidney function, etc).

Homework Tasks:

  • Observe and note how long it takes for a common medicine (e.g., painkiller) to show its effect.
  • Discuss why different people might experience different drug effects.
  • Create a short guide on factors that influence drug metabolism.
  • Choose a drug and explain its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (include a hand-written graph showing these aspects).

Lesson 3: Common Drug Interactions & Side Effects

Lecture:

  • How different drugs interact with each other and with the food.
  • The difference between side effects, adverse effects, and the allergic reactions.
  • The importance of checking for the drug interactions before taking multiple medications simultaneously.

Homework Tasks:

  • Research, observe and share an example of a common drug interaction.
  • Describe any personal experience with drug side effects and how you managed it.
  • Find and explain a real-life case of an adverse drug reaction.
  • Create an infographic or list of “Do’s and Don’ts” when taking multiple medications. (include your own images)

How I Will Ensure AI is Not Used for Homework Tasks

It is very much important especially in the field of medicines to avoid mistakes and avoid spreading wrong information, as it is dealing with the lives. So, to minimize AI-generated submissions, I will design assignments that require personal experiences, real-world observations, own images, hand-written details and research-based analysis. Some examples include:

  • Writing about personal experiences with OTC medications.

  • Analyzing a drug label and summarizing its key details. (sharing own images)

  • Observing how different medications affect individuals differently.

  • Sharing the personal experiences about the side effects of the drugs.

  • Including own images and infographics.

  • In some tasks, I will also ask to draw the diagram of the mechanism of action of a drug.

  • I will use various AI detectors to making sure the originality of the homeworks.

Why I am the Right Candidate?

📌 Academic Background: As a Pharm D student, I have an in-depth knowledge of pharmacology and real-world exposure to medication uses.

📌 Passion for Teaching: I love sharing medical knowledge in a simple, engaging, and practical way.

📌 Commitment to Quality: I will provide detailed feedback on assignments to enhance learning outcomes and to point out the mistakes of the participants.
