High end coffee joint vs normal mamak coffee

in team •  6 years ago

I was meeting a client recently and had no choice but to take my 6-year-old along with my 88-year mum. No don't fall off the chair yet or "mata terbeliak"... yes, it was one of those days where I just had to juggle everything with the multitude of hands...
So, moving on, after I had set up the mind teaser aka iPad plus hot choc and carrot cake, the meeting with my client proceeded smoothly. After about an hour into the meeting, yes it is amazing how the mind teaser actually teases the mind of a 6-year-old, I hear a bunch of "youngsters" or shall I say, Gen -Y's sitting at the table behind me.

The first profanity hit me like a ton of bricks... I am like, oh-oh... my daughter with those "big ears" which is like a sonar that picks up just about everything is sitting just behind these morons. Of course with every other profanity that followed the first, I quickly ended the meeting and left.

No, I have sat at numerous mamak coffees and have very rarely heard these profanities.....

Question is why? Does it mean when one sits at a Starbucks or Coffee Bean, it automatically gives one a right to shoot profanities? It not only sets a disgusting example for oneself but those around as well. I would assume that those who frequented these establishments would have a higher frame of mind and behave like a guttersnipe.

We are trying very hard to ensure that no smoking is allowed in restaurants as it damages the physical health not to mention a disgusting habit as well. Why not start disallowing bad language as well in all establishments as it is frequented by young children as well? Yeah yeah... I can already hear the comments... but what about freedom of speech?
We dearies, the freedom of speech was originally allowed for those who fought for substantive issues not to establissh coolness by flauting profanities....
