When's the best time to get a new aircon?
Right about now!

Have you ever needed an aircon repaired or installed in the middle of summer?? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Good luck with that!!!

We've spent two summers here now and it's been hella hot. Although I have my own cheapo coping methods I also have a pretty good tolerance to heatwave conditions.

However I'm not willing to subject bub to it and with about 5 months until bub arrives now is definitely the time to get cracking on the aircon situation.

NSW Energy Saver Rebates and Discounts

I'm not sure how long the rebates have been going for or how long it will go for but I heard about it through one of my Facebook groups a few months ago.

According to their website

Our programs improve energy efficiency in the home. By accessing rebates and discounts you can cut back on your energy use, save on power bills and help the environment. These programs are available to eligible NSW residents.

The rebates just aren't for air conditioning but also for replacement appliances like fridges, TVs and energy bill rebates.

If you're in NSW and know a pensioner having issues with their energy bill or own an old plasma or old fridge check this page out.

What now?

Kilowatts

First figure out how many kilowatts you need to cool your space by calculating how big your space is in square meters.

We have a open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area that's roughly 48sqm and according to Choice we need something between 4-6kW.

I'm aiming for at least 5kW hoping that it'll travel down the hallway helping cool the other rooms.

According to the Energy Saver website these are the discounts available.

Approved installer

Now that you know your kWs you need to find an approved installer and an approved aircon.

All this can be found here

Basically you can skip step 1 and just find an approved installer and have them come to your house and assess which unit is suitable for you.

But if you're like me, intensely curious and want to find out which rebate you're eligible for beforehand do step 1.

Scroll down and enter your postcode to find an installer.

I don't know how big an area this thing is scanning for but out of a list of about 12 installers only 3-4 were "close by" and only 2 I would classify as local.

Approved Unit

This is another step you can skip but if you want to source your own aircon and pay for installation separately go here to get a list of approved air conditioning units.

I read that Kelvinator and Mitsubishi are the top 2 aircon brands at the moment and I'm definitely looking into getting the best unit for the best price.

Now that we're in the colder months and approaching the end the of financial year I'm hoping everything will line up and we can get our aircon situation sorted out soon.

If you've been looking into getting an aircon installed or replaced I hope this has come in handy.

Good luck with the air con installation! We were lucky with this house as high ceilings and shady trees to keep everything nice and cool and we generally only have to use the aircon to cool the extensions down (kids rooms are there). If the entire house had high ceilings weโ€™d only need it on the 40+ days.

Definitely donโ€™t want bubs overheating ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Ohhh I love adore high ceilings!!! Must be lovely especially in summer. The front back rooms are always cooler but the lounge is a bit of a fish bowl/sauna and even though were got thermal blinds it doesnt really help much. So aircon would be amazing ๐Ÿ˜
