Team Australia new recruits: update 24/06/17

in teamaustralia •  8 years ago

Bon jour good people of the internet! Before I get into today’s intros, I want to say a massive THANK YOU to @ausbitbank, who kindly delegated 1000SP to me this week so I could upvote worthy minnows in our community. This is a an amazing gesture and I will endeavour to use my power wisely. Mwahahaha...

Jokes aside, I have been taking my recruiter role VERY seriously. I have been diligently seeking out and contacting newbies and inviting them to join Team Australia.

So far I’ve reached out to 29 Aussies by leaving messages on their posts. I am also keeping a spreadsheet of who I’ve contacted so I don’t accidentally spam the same people over and over. Nobody wants that.

Plus you never know when you might get audited by centerlink. I wouldn’t want my benefits to be cut off from a lack of trying to find work.

Candidate 1

Name and bio

@finance2nomad is the first Team Australia ambassador I am introducing from Utrecht in The Netherlands (Ah! Great country). It's not clear from the intro post if this person is male or female so I will use s/he as the pronoun.

@finance2nomad loves Australia and has been here several times. S/he has danced with aborigines, surfed for the first time, enjoyed bonding with others around campfires (hopefully not during bushfire season), and high-fived kangaroos. @finance2nomad is really into travelling and one of the few people on the planet who's visited North Korea. S/he is a full time investor and wants to achieve financial independence by age 40.

Fun fact

“I became absolutely wasted in a North Korean bar, thinking I could drink the bar empty with a few pals. I didn't succeed”.

If getting totally shit-faced in a foreign pub doesn’t make you Aussie then I don’t know what does.

Candidate 2

Name and bio

@jwmackay is an electrical engineer from Melbourne. While at uni, he was invited to spend six months in Austria to build an electric snowmobile prototype, which sounds pretty fun.

@jwmackay is still trying to work out what he wants to do as an engineer but thinks it's normal for people to take a long time to figure out what they want from life (tell me about it). His best mate is a rottweiler-blue healer cross named Otto (I like to get blotto! Sorry. I couldn't resist making the obvious Simpsons joke there). His skills include airbrush art and growing an awesome hipster beard.

Fun Fact

“I'm an airbrush artist and hope to be able to spend more time doing it eventually”.

I checked some of your posts and you're really talented. Good luck with your goal.

Candidate 3

Name and bio

@lenscape is a Sri Lankan born Australian citizen who was “raised by wolves (Stark direwolves?) and tamed by the wind". I don't know what this means but it sure sounds mysterious. He has lived in Sydney since he was four and is a biomedical engineer turned doctor turned photographer. Hmm, there seems to be a lot of engineers here at Team Australia.

@lenscape believes that that if you can’t teach someone an idea or concept, you don’t truly understand it yourself. He is an avid snowboarder with his fastest speed recorded at an impressive 94.24km/hr. He also plays guitar, piano and drums.

Fun fact

“I have loads of teeth and hair, and brush both regularly”.

That’s good. Things could get messy pretty quickly if you didn’t.

@sirknight, please add these fine upstanding citizens to Team Australia.

As usual, please go here and follow everyone that’s been added to Team Australia since you last checked. If your name is on this list, please do not ask me to introduce you. You are already part of the team.

Don't forget to check out @centerlink, who is busy putting Aussie-battler tax dollars to work in the form of dole payments for your posts.

And finally check out the awesome Minnow Support Project here and here

The Rules for joining Team Australia

If you’re not yet a member and want to be, this is what you need to do:

  1. Follow all the existing members @teamaustralia.
  2. Vote here for our resident steemit witness @ausbitbank.
  3. Comment below that you want to join.
  4. Link your introduction post so I can find out a bit about you. If you’re new to steemit you'll have to write one so use the introduceyourself tag to help boost your following.
  5. If it’s not mentioned in your introductory post, tell me which city and country you’re in, cos let's face it, a lot of us live in Australia's fourth largest city - London.
  6. If you’re not Aussie tell me why you should be a teamaustralia ambassador.
  7. Tell me a fun fact about yourself. This can be anything. For example, maybe you run a successful business, or you have eight kids and three dogs, or you rode your bike across Amercia, or you won the blue ribbon for javelin throwing at sports day back in high school, or Toadie came into the pub you work at one day and you served him a beer, or, maybe you can fit 55 maltesers in your mouth like Ed Sheeran can. It doesn’t matter what it is, I want a fun fact about you!

Once I receive this information I will try my best to write a good introductory paragraph about you for the official Team Australia membership updates. So the better your information is, the better I can make you sound.

Please use the teamaustralia and australia tags to promote your work. I will try and post weekly updates unless there is a lot of interest, in which case I will try and post sooner.

Ciao for now.

You're on my list. I'll update you when I've introduced you.

thanks heaps

Thanks. Great post. I liked it very much.

Cool. Thank you!

Hey guys, so glad to be part of #teamaustralia! Looking forward to connect with a lot more of you in the coming weeks. I will be around in the great PAL chat under the same nickname, so catch me there when you're up for a talk. Cheers, @Finance2Nomad

Sign me up @choogirl :) Everyone followed, ausbitbank voted.
My intro post is https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@markfitzgerald/hi-steemit-i-m-mark-fitzgerald-and-i-get-paid-to-photograph-things-some-of-them-are-pretty
I'm a photographer and also a drummer from Melbourne. Fun fact: I wanted to learn to play the saxophone but Mum said it was too loud. So... Drums.

Thanks :)

I'd like to join!

I don't have an introduce me post yet but I'm working on it.

I'm from the east coast of death island.

Fun fact, I'm a motorbike riding romance writing poet who just wants to spread freedom and love to all, such dichotomy/duality. A touch of life and brush with death.

Great. Let me know when you're done.

Done with? :)

Done with your intro post. I need a bit of info about you so I can introduce you properly.

What would you like to know? :)

At the start of this thread you said you're writing an intro post. So basically I'm waiting on that. You can put whatever you like in it. Your background, job, hobbies, interests, what you want out of life, etc. Whatever you're comfortable with sharing.

You can see how I've introduced and summarised new people in my posts, so that should give you an idea of what I'm looking for.

If you don't want to publish a post for everyone who follows you to see you can write the info in this thread. But I can't introduce you if I don't have anything to work with. Sorry.

Good luck!

Working on it didn't mean writing it right this moment, I was waiting till I was comfortable with the platform before releasing any personal or private details about who I am and what I do.

Which is why I wrote the information I did in the earlier post.
Buuuut if you must know.

Background is in IT, telesales, carpentry, wood machining, exciting stuff like cso for suncorp. D;

hobbies are creative writing and motorcycles and crypto, used to be a bit of a gamer but not anymore, i've mined crypto and all sorts of stuff.

interests are reading / writing / learning / teaching / living life as best I can / supporting the networks I believe in/ maintaining balance in this world of constant flux. Normal stuff. :)

What I want out of life? well you'll get that one on the introduce me post when I write it. Lets just say I have long goals and short goals. :)

Perfect! I'll include you in the next update.

ok i am following

awesome

Thank you for the reminder to keep checking the TeamAus following list, I will probably keep needing them. [adds new people]

Lol. No problem.

I have to keep checking myself.

welcome to the family, i just upvoted and followed you, follow me back and feel free to check out my account!

Choogirl, I just saw your invite on my intro post. (Still getting used to this place.) I'd love to be part of teamaustralia and have lots of posts planned. I've already done an intro, which you found. What else do I need to do? I'm in the process of following people as we speak...

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Hi @gidget, I need a fun fact about you please (see above if you need some examples).
I'm sticking your intro in here as a reminder to myself.
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@gidget/the-world-s-worst-dressage-caller-and-hi-by-the-way

Only one fun fact? ;-) I'm a tragic travel junkie with a severe adrenaline addiction. It's debilitating but so fun and worthwhile.

(A short video of said stupidity can be found here: https://steemit.com/life/@gidget/adrenaline-junkies-unite )

Cool. You're on my list. I'll let you know when you've been introduced.

Thanks!

Hey @choogirl you left a comment on my status inviting me to join! Thanks for the opportunity this seems like a really nice way for Australians to connect and support eachother over steemit.

Here is my intro post where I cover aspects of my career and my main personal vision for steemit.

I don't think I specifically state where in Australia I am from though. I live near Newcastle, a few hours north of Sydney.

I give a pretty good run down of my career in my intro. But my ultimate goal is to use steemit, as well as other passive income streams, to support myself while I create content and travel!

I look forward to hearing back from you. All the best!

Thanks for your response. Do you have a "fun fact" about yourself I can use?

Wellll, I'm a personal trainer who owns one gorgeous ginger cat and I'm planning to use steemit to finance my travels starting next year!

You're on my list. I'll update you when I've introduced you.

Hi! Turtler here, i live near wollongong and i want to join please! I followed everyone and voted for the witness, my introduction post is here:
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@turtler/hi-steemit-it-s-great-to-be-here

fun fact: My favourite food is avocado but i am allergic to avocado

Great! I'll include you in the next update.

thanks!

followed you

Hey choogirl, how's it going?

Team Australia has been recommended to me by @bullet and sounds like an excellent opportunity to get involved in a Steemit community that I can relate to.

I've followed the steps above and my introductory post can be found here.

I'm in Sydney and a fun fact would be: "After travelling through some of Europe and North America, I became really self conscious about the amount of times I said the words 'cheers' and 'mate'." Yeah, I'm definitely Australian.

I'm looking forward to seeing where getting involved in this community can take me.

Cheers! ;)

Hey, thanks for getting in touch. I will include you in the next update or the one after (I have a few lined up at the moment so I need to see how long it gets).

Look forward to it. Can't wait to get involved.

Just had a read. Thank you!

Hi @choogirl and hello to everyone else. Thanks for the invite. Please add me to Team Australia. My fun facts are that I was brought into being in Sydney, by inaccurate conception (similar to immaculate conception, but less spiritual). I was then born and corrupted in England, for a few decades, before fleeing to live happily ever after in Australia. My introductory post can be found here - Introducing The Far South Coast Of New South Wales, Australia, And Me. I'm anti-labelist and pro-individualist, and not yet sure whether I'll ever post a photo of myself on here. Far prettier to look at are the photos I've been posting. Look out for my next post which will be online in the next few hours. There will be a bit more about me in there. Cheers.

You're on my list. I'll update you when I've introduced you.

Great, thanks. Much appreciated.

Hello @choogirl and everbody else. I am new on Steemit and saw this post coming by on my feed page.

I would like to join this group. It is really nice that there is a group like this were people can help each other and were we can share our stories.

Here is my introduction https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@nour-money31/hello-steemit-the-world-is-changing-are-we-changing-with-it-or-not

As you can see I am not from Australia. I am from The Netherlands. Australia seems to me a beautiful country and would love to go there once.

A fun fact about myself, I realized the world is changing and the new way to earn money is on the internet so I am learning myself pretty quick how to do everything and I can tell there is a lot to learn for me.

Thanks @choogirl looking forward to seeing where this goes

Hi Chugirl, thanks for inviting me for Team Australia. I'd like to loop in here :)
I’ve completed my first #introduceyourself post, and you can find it in the link below:
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@jungyoon/hello-steemit-girl-from-seoul-but-soon-to-be-in-sydney-checking-in
I live in Seoul, South Korea, but I’m about to be in Sydney starting from next week. I work for a global, Australia's fourth largest city - London based, company and I’ve got a chance to work for Sydney office for the next 6 months. I found it pretty hard to get a nice source for Australia in Korean, so I’d like to be the one. The one that provides Australia information for Korean fellows so that we can improve awareness on Australia in Korea. As a starting point, I’d like to be a part of Team Australia, and be the first Korean ambassador.
I also believe that being a member of Team Australia would help me a lot in adapting in Australia. Within a month, I have to prepare an ‘Aussie Aussie Aussie costume’ for my company’s gala dinner, and honestly, it is my very first day to prepare & wear a ‘costume’ so I wish to get some advice from Team Australia! I’m thinking of some Aussie invention… like WIFI... or splayd… It'd be great if you all can help me with great ideas!

Can you provide me with a fun fact about yourself (see my examples for ideas). I will then add you to my list.

I consider myself chill and fashionable. I have to prepare 'Aussie Aussie Aussie!' costume for my company's gala dinner, and am thinking of a vegemite costume... would I look like a nerd?

You're on my list. I'll update you when I've introduced you.

Hi definitely want to join. I think I have done all that is required. From Perth. Fun Fact: Love brewing my own beer. Been known to drink bars dry in my youth in eastern Europe.

Can you link your intro post please. I need some information to work with so I can introduce you.

Sorry @choogirl did miss this one - will add them tonight. SK.

No problem. I sent you a message in steemit chat just before.

I would like to offer my services as a roaming ambassador for Team Australia! I am UK citizen but travel extensively, mostly in South America this year.

Intro: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@artisanloaf/hello-world-of-steem

Some of my fondest memories are of my time in Australia... Beaches, bbq, beer and bourbon.

Fun fact: I never did figure out how to order a decent sized beer in an aussie bar. But, I did know enough not to drink fosters.

You're on my list. I'll update you when I've introduced you.

Hey @choogirl, upped, voted, resteemed & following other members. Another fellow Aussie keen to jump on board @teamaustralia ! Thanks for your efforts in getting us all together :) Here is my intro post
I'm from the country town of Perth, Western Australia, i play bagpipes and bass guitar and am allergic to vodka!

Cool. You're on my list. I'll let you know when you're introduced.

Thanks!

Great work @choogirl. You are setting the example of the proper way to fulfill the recruiter role.

Thank you! That means a lot to me.

Almost done! I'm from Belgium, living in Cairns atm.

Great, post your intro link here and tell me a fun fact about yourself when you're ready to join.

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@alexoz/i-am-you

I'm a co-founder of Decred. I tried to make all my friends rich but they didn't trust me.

Funny fact???

I did retire in front of their eyes in only 3 months!

My mum invested 500euro a bit late cuz she didn't pay attention. She made 30k euro in 5 months...

That's a sweet return on investment!

Yes she wanted 25k to add some sugar for her Dream's farm. She changed her mind, she could buy next my castle haha ;)

That's awesome. I wish you'd been my friend in real life! 😛

I'll include you in the next update or possibly the one after. I've got a few going now and I don't want to put to many in together to dilute down the importance of new members.

ok. We still can be friends ;) And, I'm advising people. https://www.facebook.com/Aspasius
