Disappointing result overall. I don't really rate Hawthorn, and I fancied our chances tonight.
Once again our forward line failed. Obviously adding Fasolo and Elliot would straighten it up a fair bit, but Mason Cox was woeful. Ben Reid didn't really offer up much either.
We really lacked that class in the middle tonight. Our A-grade midfielders weren't really A-grade tonight. Even if they got their hands on the ball a bit, they weren't very damaging. Sidebottom did have some flashes of brilliance, but overall I expect more of our midfield.
And letting Tom Mitchell get 50 touches every time we play them is starting to become some kind of sick joke. I understand his disposals might not be as effective as some other players, but we're effectively letting them have an extra player on the field by not even trying to nullify him.
Really liked the look of Sam Murray. Happy with that pick up.
Jaiden Stephenson didn't really look ready. I would give him a few weeks in the VFL to build some confidence.
That lapse at the end of that 2nd quarter was really the difference in the end, and that goal that Hawthorn were gifted when Tom Langdon was penalised certainly didn't help. That was ridiculous.
The game was there to be won in the last quarter. 2 goals from that many inside 50s was very disappointing. We let the Hawks kill the ball way too often.
I'm not writing off the season, it's only one game. Next week will be tough, and no game this season will be easy, so if we don't get a good win in soon we could very easily find ourselves in a hole yet again.
