I am currently pregnant of my second child and I guess it is time that I share my story to future mothers out there especially those who are having a hard time conceiving.
I was 25 years old when I got married with my boyfriend for 8 years. I think it is important to mention that my boyfriend had much respect for me that we agreed that sexual activity between us will occur at the night of our wedding. However, due to unforeseen circumstances in our relationship two years before our marriage, my then boyfriend and now my husband thinking that I was actually serious about breaking up with him decided to break that promise and we had our first sexual union. As for my part, although our relationship was on the rocks at that moment, I did not complain because I believe my husband deserved to be my first that time.
So, before our marriage, when my husband was around, we always do the deed but we were always careful that I'm off during my fertile days. Little did we know that I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and that I will have a hard time getting pregnant.
Finally, we got married and like most married couples we immediately wanted to have children. However, it was never the case. My husband is a seafarer so the longest time that we are together averages from 2-4 months in a year. After one year of marriage, we decided to consult with an OB-Gyne because I was also having an irregular menstruation. That day we knew that I was actually suffering from PCOS. My OB-Gyne that time prescribed Folic Acid capsule and a kind of pill that I could no longer remember. I took some of those medications but we never returned for another consultation. My husband and I agreed that we just take our time, enjoy each other and just depend on God's will if He will bless us with children.
After another 9-months contract aboard a foreign vessel, my husband decided to take an exam so he can get a license to be an officer so that means more time on land and more time together. My husband and I tried to live a healthy lifestyle hoping that it could help us in conceiving a baby. Since my husband was preparing for the exam, he always made it a habit to pass by the Quiapo Church before going to the review center. Little did I know that aside from praying to God to bless him with wisdom so he can successfully pass the exam, he was also praying to God to bless us with a child. And so after 5 months of spending continuous time together, we finally had the best news that we've continuously and silently praying for, I got a positive pregnancy result. It was not an easy pregnancy because I was confined at the hospital two times before my due date. The first one was during my first trimester and the second one was when I was on my seventh month of pregnancy. The best thing about all of it though was that I delivered a healthy baby boy who is now 4 years old.
My husband and I thought that my first pregnancy was just a miracle which was really the case. Right after my first pregnancy, we never used any birth control method because we were thinking we can never be lucky the second time around. But, we were wrong. We got another surprise when I was tested positive last September 2017 and now I am having my second pregnancy. This time we will be having a girl.
This story is for other women like me who are having a hard time getting pregnant. In my case, I never used any medication to cure my PCOS. I just tried to live a healthy lifestyle and eat healthy foods. Yes, we always pray because we believe that babies are God's miracles and they are made out of love who is God Himself existing in the hearts of your partner and yourself. Also, always be the best version of yourself not only for yourself but for the people around you because miracles only happen to those who deserve them. My belief is that PCOS is just a health issue that can reduce your chances to have babies, but it cannot be a cause so you will have none. I believe nothing beats being a good person and when you try to be one miracles can happen just anytime.
