Growing TeamMalaysia | My experience with Steem Sceptics

Hey Steemians

As you've known by now, I've done many presentation about Steemit and trying to get more steemians to join. I do realize that there is a strange pattern on those who do join and those who does not. I'd just want to share with you and I do know a lot of you are talking to your friends and family members, lets see if the experiences are the same.

1) Those who asks how to cash out before starting don't seems to signup

To some, they are trying understand the whole process from A-Z before even signing up for an account on Steemit. I find it really strange as the account is free and it would be close to 2 weeks before they even see a single cent in their wallet.

How to handle : Tell them, there are a lot of tutorials which has already been written and if you explain the entire process now, you would need to repeat yourself once more later. Just start first and when they get a payout then you will show them how the withdrawal process is done

2) What's the catch ?

I remembered talking to a "Financial Advisor" who is also a "Trainer / Business Coach" and claims that he has invested in cryptocurrency . When hearing about Steem , he kept on asking "What's the catch ??" and got agitated when I told him there was none.

My thoughts : Some people who has seen or been involved in so many scams finds it hard to believe that Steemit gives rewards without the need to buy something or subscribe to something first. What's the catch ? There is NONE that I can think of which should prevent someone to join Steemit unless you do not have internet

How to handle : Forward to him the whitepaper http://steem.io and then tell him if he finds what the catch is do let you know. Please tell me too as I've got no freaking clue. Another approach would be to introduce steemit to their friends... it will get to him eventually

3) People who don't gives a f**k about money

This is by far my favourite crowd to address. We do know that a more "mature" crowd doesn't get excited about chump change which 1 post can bring to you. So why should they join Steemit ? haizzz .. wasting time .... but wait ... you gotta angle it differently

How to handle : Show them the humanitarian side of things as individuals who are already well off with $$$ didn't get there by splashing around their $$$. Its most likely they were one of the stingiest a$$ around. So show them what could be achieved with Steemit as part of their communal work without coming out a cent. With their influence in the real world, they could be a great influence without coming out a single cent yet helping thousands of people

4) Those who want to cure world hunger without lifting a finger

I've come across individuals who comes up to me and tell me the million and one charities they are involved in and would like to use steemit to support their charity. Four weeks later, they come to my talk again and still tells me another bunch of charity which they are involved in and would like steemit to help and they need time to sign up for a steemit account.

How to handle : Without a doubt, there are individuals out there who really have a kind heart and would like to help out all these charities. However there are also individuals out there who has their very own agenda of being "popular" and monetizing thru these charities. I label these individuals as "Opportunists".

Just "SMILE" and let them continue telling you on how charitable and hardworking they are. Lets not plague steemit with these individuals however help and guide the genuine ones. You can tell the difference as Opportunist always use a lot of "I" and the real givers use a lot of "We"

5) Bitcoin Scam/Ponzi/MLM Enthusiasts

I'm almost certain that you've been approached at least once by "agents" of a Bitcoin Scam/Ponzi/MLM . And they will tell you their rags to riches story then how they found the solution to "financial freedom". These are individuals who are pretty much blinded by how much their uplines are making and having already invested they need to make their network grow as well. There is nothing wrong here because we also have invested our time and effort in Steemit would like to see it grow

How to handle : Tell them your story as well many other individuals story on steemit, there is nothing better then sharing your own personal experience and not experience of others. The biggest difference is that you didn't come out capital to start however you just invested your time and gave up on other social medias (true right ??)

These are just a few of the many sceptics which I have come across just over these past few months. However with more and more amazing stories on how Steemit has changed a person's life. It gets easier and easier to talk about Steemit.

You don't have to convince someone to join and signup on steemit. There is no affiliate fee. Just share with them your experience and if they are interested and think its beneficial to them, they will join irregardless.

Have a great day ahead !

Nice post, it's quite comforting for new joiners like me. Yeah I was a bit skeptical too before starting mine but I decided to give it a go anyways and see how things turn out. Low exposure might discouraging at first but I will do it because I want to! Any tips for newbs?

only advise .. keep on posting and engaging

aiyoh!! yes @bitrocker2020.. I have spoke to a couple and even after I answer all their questions... their last thing is I have no time.... so I tell them, you do it on your insta and fb anyways and still....

lol .. i know right ??? but at least you told them =P

"There is only so much one can say... the rest is up to you..."
Now we know why this line exists! I couldn't do what you do, @bitrocker2020; no doubt I haven't had the opprotunity yet to attend one of your talks but I can already imagine the huge wall you face when you start any of your talks!

As for me, I just tell them my experience (as you say) that this is what I do on steemit... what I have gained (not just monetary) and that even after 7 months here, I'm still amazed at the experience and information I get from steemit; I've still yet to be bored by it! Give it a try, if you like... And there's a lot of help from friends there once you join.

Meanwhile, Steem on, bro... You're doing a good thing!

Haha .. yea one of my punchlines during my events now is to ask everyone to pull out their credit card. Since they are all expecting it anyways 😂🤣😂🤣

Thanks for your efforts in growing our teammalaysia steemit group

I have stop convincing people to come onboard. It annoys me a great deal when people complaining about money issue and yet when a suggestion is given (join Steemit), they are still not doing anything about it. They give way too many excuses - don't know what to write about, not artsy enough etc yet spend hours of their life watching YT or Facebooking. I just don't get it. These days I just do my own thing and mingle with the good folks here.

Haha ... Yea it's like they want u to do everything for them and they only collect the money

Oh yeahhhhhh one of my fav topic of discussion with @maverickfoo wink wink haha @bitrocker2020

Hahaha ... 😂😂😂

Awesome, Simon. Totally agree with you on this. Especially number 1. I like that you included ways to handle these questions too. I'm trying to convert my friends over, but it is tough to persuade them into seeing the benefits. I guess we don't all think the same way! :-)

Yea like what we talked about .. getting those closes to you are normally the hardest . They have to hear it from their friends

Besides the content, i really like the cat's face..so funny. Is that how your face looks like when being approached by those sceptics? Lol

Hahaha bro... spot on!

One more to add... "Where is the money come from?" hahahaa...
Got it from one of the academician in my Uni...
I had no idea how to explain...
But I have an idea...

Can I show him your wallet?... hahahaa...

LoL .. the question which I always relate to some game 😂😂😁

Bullseye. You’ve got everything covered. There is still so much to learn in steemit, life changing for me. We definately can grow to be better person thru steemit. 🍻

There's no catch to having a blog and receiving tokens from upvotes.

When people cash out, they're receiving money that other people used to buy STEEM. That's the catch - it's a transfer of wealth from people who bought crypto to people who either didn't buy it or who are making capital gains from it. This is why people who paid for STEEM are so eager to have more people buy into the crypto - to drive up the price so that they can get capital gains. There will be losers - that's guaranteed!

This is a good answer ... I'll make sure I'll remember this the next time I come across individuals like these.

To be honest with you , some of guys like me will lazy to read very long article unless they are interested with their attention like this blog for me, so they will understand all what the article say, like some of the most difficult article theme such as finance or crypto , is really difficulty for me to read all, cuz I am an artist, not really touch those industries info much, but for getting more steemians to notice us we might need to vote n comment more steemit post, so end out will have a lot miscommunication , haha. And sorry for any inconvenience bringing up you guys.

I totally understand what you meant . Like teammalaysia posts alone has about 200 over posts daily . It's hard to read every single one in detail

Yes, I do get this sort of doubts. And I was once myself but choose to try first ask later. I think different audience needs specific approach during presentation.

I’m sure u encountered a thousands of personalities when promoting steemit. I get it sceptic will be baffled as to why you are doing what you do. If you got them to steemit then they will know that they are no ‘catch’ at all.

I love your work simon, honestly and can say I can’t do the same, it is just too tiring to convince. We are lucky they is a guy like you who loves to share about steemit.

Coming from a victim of ponzi, and a bunch of friends who are a victims too, promoting cryptocurreny per se is a hugh task for me where mostly my friends are a bankers And you know whAt is limitAting us? The threat of the central bank.
Whatever, i am no longer in banking and i dont care anymore, steemit make a huge different, and i dont care about money anymore, i care about to mingle more with people, creAte good content and finding great initiative.

Thanks @cikxaijen truly appreciate what you said. I do believe in sharing what's good after scrutinizing it yourself.. Yes the sceptics are mostly those who were victims .. can't help it cuz Malaysia is like one of those countries where almost every scam or Ponzi has been tried and tested here first before going to neighbouring countries.

Spot on @bitrocker2020. You have covered almost all types of people....or potential steemians.
If they don't act, they just remain as a "potential".
Kudos to those who had signed up.
You have nothing to lose and there is no " catch" here as @bitrocker2020 pointed out.

Thanks again bro @bitrocker2020

I do have some questions, but I'm the type that: join it and find out yourself.
So I'm here. Picking up everything one by one. Never afraid of try and error. Blast my post, upvote until bankrupt ( limited bandwidth)... being flag by introduce myself at the wrong place by timcliff but after my explanation, he accepted my apology and give me few upvote to get me back at my position.... bla bla etc.

Well, today i Still having lots of questions that unsolvable...yet it never stops me to act like a bull!! I will keep trying!! Genki go!! Thanks for your support and @davidke20 @auleo etc etc
Oh ya and the always number 1 in the upvote list @hendrikdegrote. Thank you for the encouragement!

@bitrocker2020 Well written big bro. What can I say - sceptics will remain sceptics, until they find it out by their own ways...
