My First oBike experience | Bike rental

So I've been seeing these bicycles all around the place in Kuala Lumpur and have been interested to try it out. I needed to head to get a few stuff from the nearby shops and decided to cycle instead of driving.

You need to download the oBike app from Appstore or Playstore and register yourself. Apparently you first few rides are free
You can use the app to located the closes oBike which is available for use. So far its pretty much everywhere.
You need to scan the bike you want to use and it will unlock the break.
Once you have reached your location all you gotta do is pull down the stands and lock the bike while your phone is near the brakes at the back.
It took a few seconds but it will then acknowledge that the oBike has ended your ride and you can just walk away.
These were few of the stats which keeps track of distance traveled , time and how much it cost.
If you do plan to use it often, there is like this membership plan. Perfect for backpacking tourist ( i guess ) or for people like me to travel from my house to the Metro lines.

No doubt there are high possibilities of these bikes being vandalized or stolen, but every bike has its GPS and if those bikes gets stolen there are merit points tied down to the last known users.

  • Everyone starts with 100 oBike credit points
  • If you parking at non-designated bike parking areas. -20 points
  • Forget to lock but a bike is not lost -20
  • If you are in violation of traffic rules, add private lock, losing or damaging the bike, your points is reduced to ZERO

So what happens if your credit points goes below 100

  • '>=100, its original price is RM0.50/30 minutes
  • <100, and >= 80, its original price is RM1.00/30 minutes
  • <80, and >= 60, the price is RM5.00/30minutes
  • <60, its RM10/30 minutes

Do try it out if you have the time. A simple and creative solution in getting the average person to exercise. =)

Very cool bike station :)

Just think our roads are not ready for bike riding (in terms of safety)

it really depends on which location you are staying. sadly only the "high end" areas gets the nice walkways and bike paths. the rest ... well .... "room for improvement"

ok, didnt know the first few ride is free, I might try it next week

yea .. should try. =)

ok baru tahu macam mana nak guna thanks bro.. haha

hehe ... kan ! byk tu bike sini sana pun ada

This is a great use of innovation and technology. There will always be some problems, but this is not only a good use of todays technology but a great promotion of a healthy lifestyle. This needs to spread worldwide

indeed thats true..... i've not cycled in like 15 years ... hahah .. this made it fun again. its a perfect simple solution for many however apparently some bikes are already broken which shows how irresponsible some individuals are. hope this company sticks around and works out these challenges

Yeah there will definitely be some abuse of this program, but perhaps over time they can create a penalty or fine for abusers

Biking once in a while is really great, especially for people used to drive around.

petrol price up ... sakit la bro .. new alternative . lolz
