Steemit @ Pearl Of Borneo

Last December, I had an early New Year BBQ Dinner cum Steemit session at my home. @viverrridae and myself introduced steemit and manage to convince friends from Labuan including @keithmontallana to get aboard.

As soon as Keith got his password and came up with his first introductory post , I knew that once there is a presentation in labuan, it will spread like wildfire.

Labuanites is the ideal place to introduce more people to join Steemit.

Although it is an small island, economically speaking she had a taste of economic success through huge investment portfolio including oil and gas and Tourism and international offshore financial centre status, unfortunately, not everyone has a taste of it success.

The fall of oil prices had put a toll on labuan and her people, this effected lots of downstream business activities. However there is light at the end of the tunnel as recently , signs of recovery has started blinking again.

The islanders in general perspective on the other hand is hungry in searching for an opportunity to do better and find additional or perhaps a sustainable alternative source of income. The only reason I know this , because I am from labuan, and most of my childhood friends is still there told me so.

@viverridae and I have been getting lots of messages pushing us to do an event in Labuan. While we were happy to see the big interest and desire to do more by Labuanites, but timing is not on our side.

With the help of @wilsonkoh , another labuan boy whom attended the event we organized in kk.

We manage to persuade him to take the lead to get Labuan Steemian that has already registered to band together and shape up their first meet up.

All this coordinating happen while and after the super busy execution of Sabah Steemian Gathering , Another Steemit Meet up at Tamparuli first week of the January 2018, and How To @steemit workshop.

Between myself and @bitrocker2020 , we knew we cant stretch ourselves anymore as we had other programs happening including TeamMalaysia Gathering in KL and other collaboration project. Going to Labuan was close to impossible this time around.

The only practical choice is to empower and encourage other Steemian especially Labuanites to get it going in their own place.

So through the work of @wilsonkoh the driver, @dilresh the fuel, @keithmontallana the bus conductor and @diamondray the tourist guide and other Steemian that has registered, They manage to get more tourist aboard and run their tours of steemit in Labuan.

These folks has lots of energy and positivity to make things happen. Report received today, that the spirit is high (I'm not talking about alcohol) , so does the interest and they will be doing another one event soon.

Hopefully, I could make it the next time around to give support and motivation that social mining is the way to go and most importantly to encourage some of my other childhood friend to be on steemit and show them that Steemit is a good alternative while they wait for the economy fully in track again.

Steem ON Labuanites. Know that the spirit of Teammalaysia was there with you.

Why Am I Here

Daniel Doughty loves his community and ideas but hates writing. Steemit is a brilliant platform that would help him express his thoughts and helps him practise his writing, he hopes to get better at it.
