MEDICAL CAMP

"Medical camp" referred to health camp that was set up in rural areas where basic medical facilities and health care are not accessible.

On 20th Jan 2018, 3 groups of people have joined this medical camp, from KK, Sandakan and Lahad Datu. Myself from KK group gather in Luyang Clinic around 6 am and departed 6:30am sharp

1st was to have breakfast before the long journey ahead. So we stop by at Tamparuli for the breakfast.

After breakfast we headed in to the medical camp site, Kampung Kaiwayan, the route to this place is from Poring Ranau, and going in to an off road route.. From the asphalt road to the Kampung took us around 2 hours with 4WD cars. This is my very 1st time to medical camp, and also my 1st time joining 4WD convoy, and I enjoyed every second of it.

Once we reach Kaiwayan, unpack what needed and setting up the medical rooms. There were Pharmaceutical, Blood test, Health test, Dental services and also haircuts, and I volunteer to help out with the dental room. I was the 'bouncer' looking after the number of patients going into the rooms. It was quite saddening to see some of the villagers asking if the dentist could remove few of their teeth all at once knowing this kind of medical camp doesn't happen often. It might be once a year or twice. We entertain patient from 12pm until 5pm.

After 5, it's time to shower and we decided to do so in nearby rivers, the water was crystal clear. Then we set up places to crash during the night. Eating camp site food felt like the best food ever, it was raining from 7pm all the way to 9am. Some of the drivers was concerned about the route out, some was happy knowing it will be more adventurous out comparing to coming in.

We got up around 7am the next day. Had some quick breakfast and continue medical service again from 8 to 930am.

Then we pack up to prepare for our journey out. It was an eye opening experience, and I myself would be joining this coming activity again.
