Here is entry number two for my Golf beginner's course series and today it all about Etiquette!

I have mentioned in my last post that golf was known as a gentleman's game and having these etiquette is what gave golf that title. In that regard, golf is also able to show a person's personality from how they handle their golf etiquette.
Golf is probably has the most number of etiquette in a sport considering it covers a wide variety of things such as your attire, your behavior in and off the golf course and of course the way you play the game.

So lets have at it!

Dress code

Lets start with attire. One of the reasons golf is considered a gentleman's game is because of how all golfers dress up.

Men's must always wear semi formal styles. Usually Collared T-shirt with slacks and golf shoes. Modern golf also allows hats in a variety of styles from cowboy hats to beanies.
Golfers must always tuck in their shirts and wear shoes whenever they are playing or at the practice facility.

Women has a more relaxed rule on their dresscode. They can basically wear almost anything except clothes that reveals their belly.

Golfers are not allowed to use slippers, jeans, bermuda pants, cargo pants whenever they are at a golf club.

Etiquette when in the club

Usually every golf club has their own local rules and etiquette. Some are more stricter than others.
So these are the most common etiquette that most golf clubs use.

• Inside the club

1. Always adhere to the dress code when in the vicinity of the golf club
2. hats must be taken off when inside the club facilities
3. do not use metal studs shoes inside the golf club
4. Place your golf bags where it is allowed too.

• At practice facility

1. Always adhere to the dress code
2. When at the range make sure to not disturb other players by playing loud music
3. Only hit towards the target area when at the range
4. Do not drag your spiked shoes on the practice green
5. Do not damage the green by using anything other than the putter on green.
6. Throwing cigarette butts on the green is prohibited

When playing inside the golf course

Again they are numerous rules and etiquette when we are playing golf so I will only cover the basic ones.

• before teeing off

1. when there are people teeing off in front of you kindly remain silent when they are hitting their shots.
2. bring sand bags or refill the sand bottle in the buggy before starting your game.
3. always give tee off priority to people who are crossing over.
4. always follow your group's tee off time.

• when playing

1. The person who is furthest of the hole will should play first.
2. always fill in your divots with sand after playing a shot
3. make sure to rake the bunkers when finished playing a shot in the bunker.
4. depending on the golf club, buggies must stay on the path provided.
5. compliments on a good shot is always welcomed
6. never drag your spiked shoes when on the green.
7. dont step on other players line when putting on the green.
8. wait for people to hole out before moving to the next hole.
9. Alway put the flag back in the hole after finishing the hole.

• After the game

1. It is always polite to take off your hat and shakes hand after a round of golf.
2. Clean your golf shoes before stepping inside the golf club.

So basically that about covers the basic etiquette in golf.
