FaceTime
FaceTime is Apple’s in-house video call app that functions similarly to Skype, Tango, Viber, just to name a few. But this app is only applicable between Apple to Apple users. I particularly use this app quite frequently on a daily basis. I FaceTime with my sister and my adorable little nephew almost everyday! Why FaceTime? Because they live so far far away, at the southest part of the the South Island of New Zealand, known as Invercargil.
So you see how far technology has come... with just a press of a button, I’m able to connect with my sister in NZ and watch what’s my mischievous nephew up to! Unlike 15 years ago, video calls were like “special privileges” and I had to use international calling cards just to call home to speak to family and it was so costly too. Now, I can video call for half hour, 1 hour and so on and it only cost me minimal data usage.
Quality Time
My nephew turns 2 next month, so for the past 23 months, that was our means of communication. From a new born baby, to learning to crawl, sit, stand, walk and run clumsily, learning to sign and speak... all these progress and experiences I managed to witness through my iPhone.
This morning, just like any other day, I would spend some time talking to my nephew and sister (husband’s most of the time at work when I call). However, today was slightly more special than usual because my nephew and I played a “guessing game” over FaceTime. I draw, he guesses the drawing. Simple, but not easy. You see, my nephew is learning to speak so he’s still learning new words everyday.

Not Perfect
Not bad for rusty hands, not the best drawing in the world, not perfect but good enough to play the “guessing game” with my nephew, good enough for all of us to have a good laugh at my artwork, most importantly, good enough for my nephew to have fun and he gueesed correctly ALL my drawings! Haha... I mean, if a 2 year old can guess what I’m drawing, it can’t be that bad right???
