TeamMalaysia Polo T-Shirt Design Contest

The Story

Honestly, I did not think of submitting an entry at all, because of my inadequacy in art and design. It is very difficult for me to brain for ideas especially in designs. The reason why I do have a last-minute submission was because I was browsing at @iamjadeline's entry and thought: WHOA, that looks so cool! Hence, I shared it with my student that I tutored yesterday, W after class. If you have been following my previous post , I have shared how entrepreneurial his mind is and he would seize every "business opportunity" to make money, hahaha! When W heard that the prize is 50 Steem, he PUSHED me to submit an entry and drew out some ideas together with me after class, so I left his house half an hour later than usual because of his enthusiasm. He is joining us on this platform soon, after I have seen his enthusiasm and talked with his mom for her permission. He has set up a Nintendo Fund and anything from my entry has to contribute a part to it.

So, that is my long story about how come I am submitting this entry, LOL. I sincerely want to thank @myach and @bitrocker2020 for this challenge. This is really pushing me out of my boundaries and my self-perceived limitations. I also want to thank @iamsuzan who is a dear friend of mine, who helped me translate my drawings into AI format (Is that what you call it? Forgive my lack of expertise in this :P) and she did it really fast! So, this credit MUST go to her. Remember to also check out her entry here ! It looks so classy.

The Design

Okay, about the design, I will try my best to articulate what we (W and I) had in mind. It is a rather simple design, as I try to preserve as many ideas W had given to me. We thought we could try to go for a dark grey colour with teal linings and wordings. Why dark grey? It is simply because I thought it would match nicely with the teal/turquoise colour, which seems to be steemit official colour. On the left sleeve, there are the wordings "Write, Vote, Earn" and under the sleeve is "steemit.com" which is to promote the official website of Steemit. On the other hand, on the right sleeve, there is "#teammalaysia" under the sleeve (not sure if it is called under the sleeve, though. You may refer to the pictures above to get a clearer picture of what I meant, hahaha!)

For the front of the polo T-shirt, there are the symbols of "upvote", "resteem" and "replies" and the wordings of "Steemit.com" again on the left side. On the right, we have "teammalaysia" and our username. We try to keep it minimal for the front design.

For the back of the polo T-shirt, there is a bulb signifying ideas of what we post on Steemit, Teammalaysia logo is incorporated into the bulb, serving as its "filament" (like we are "powering up" the bulb). The bulb was my student, W's idea and I tilted it upside down, added on the filament. The message I am trying to get across is I am amazed at the ideas from #teammalaysia have come out with. We have been using this platform to share photos and music, to write, to draw and of course to network. Some of us now are featured in big international communities too, so our "filament" is actually possessing some great qualities!

The Inverted Colour

Because I was a great fan of teal/turquoise colour once upon a time when I was younger and teal/turquoise seems to be Steemit's official colour, I thought I just be daring and asked @iamsuzan to invert the colours the other way round. So, we ended up having another colour, with the exact same design actually. I don't know if guys (or even some ladies) would prefer this colour or not. I have no problem with it, haha! It may brighten up our dress-code mood.

So, the collar will be dark grey instead of the teal colour of our first design. Wordings that were in teal are changed to be in dark grey instead. Everything else remains the same.

With this, here is my entry for the Polo T-shirt design for #teammalaysia. Here is how it originally looked like when I was braining it out with W.

My conclusion of the day is Steemit has really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I still feel paiseh (shy in our local slang) to actually submit so I slept over it last night. Anyway, I did it, also to encourage my student for his idea and to fund him if it happens (I take his trust towards me seriously). Whether he does or doesn't get his Nintendo, he still has to study with me and brush up his writing skills. By doing a "project" like this with him, I have gained more "leverage" or say in his writing practices (oh I meant to say it is to improve our relationship, hehe).

Well, just trying luck and I still wish the best design (which does not have to be me) win, so we can all wear it with pride, celebrating the winner. Thank you all for reading and dropping by!
