My Favorite FOOD - Penampang

Hello fellow Steemians, last weekend I was at Penampang for my sister inlaw Makan Pitas (known to be local ethics KadazanDusun culture). The “pitas” is more like a penalty to cut any blood relationship between the man and woman a month or two before their marriage. This is to fulfill the engagement agreement that was made at earlier stages.

In this blog, I am proud to share you my favorite fish soup dish in Sabah. It is generally called Kon Loh Mee Sup Ikan Asam Pedas – Directly translated as Dried Mix Noodles Soup Fish Sour Hot.

The name may sound complicated but it’s not. Kon Loh Mee is commonly served in Chinese Restaurant. It’s a thick gravy noodles is made of corn starch, eggs and several of spices and can be found anywhere in Asia mainly Malaysia and Singapore.

Kon Loh Mee can be served in various recipes. Among all servings in Sabah I find this restaurant called Kedai Kopi & Makan Fui Lau the very best as yet. It is located in the town of Penampang district called Donggongon. If you are living in Sabah right now or from Labuan or traveling to Sabah anytime sooner or later, I highly highly recommend you to drop by here and taste it to believe it.

My husband mother origin is from Penampang, so each time we go back to his Mum hometown, we never missed to have our breakfast here. This Kedai Kopi (Coffee Shop) also served various menu so not to worry if you’re allergic or not a fan of fish soup.

However this coffee shop also served Pork menu. So it is labelled as “Non-Halal” Restaurant. Which means Non-Permissible Food in the Law of Islam.

If you are Muslim, I can recommend you to go and eat at “Kedai Kopi Wan Wan” their famous serving is the Tom Yum Fish Soup Noodles.

Anyways, this is my personal preference when comes to eat Kon Loh Mee Ikan Asam Pedas.
