Sojourners

As I travel, I have the opportunity to meet up with migrants from different places. Some of the meetings are joyful encounters of people from the same place of origin. If the foreign land has not been better than the homeland, many wouldn’t have migrated to an unfamiliar place.

It is quite natural for people to look for a better land for themselves and their loved ones. Indeed, it is not easy for many first generation migrants to accustom to the culture and lifestyle of the countries they have emigrated. They are more or less like sojourners.

When my wife and me visit a place, no matter how friendly and hospitable are the people, it comes a time we have to say “goodbye” and leave the place. Therefore, it is helpful to know that we are only sojourners. When we need to leave this world, how blessed are we if there is a better place beyond the blue, which we refer as Heaven?

I remember there was a couple celebrating their fiftieth wedding ceremony. It was a joyful moment for them to be surrounded by family members and friends. When I talked to the husband, I was impressed because he did not lose sight of what is more important. He told us that what was most important is one day to be in heaven.

Are you a sojourner, do you have a home beyond the blue?

This world is not our permanent home, do you have a home beyond the blue?
