This is the Borough Hall in Brooklyn, designed by architects Calvin Pollard and Gamaliel King in the Greek Revival style, and constructed of Tuckahoe marble.

The land was donated for the hall in 1834 by the Remsen and Pierrepont families, whose names are commemorated in the names of Brooklyn's Remsen and Pierrepont Streets, and the cornerstone laid in 1836.

However due to financial hardships, the construction was delayed, but it was eventually completed in 1848.

The building was added to the national historic register in 1980, and in the 1980s it underwent a massive renovation.

Thanks Kindly always appreciated

What an amazing buildings, I love the lines of neo classical, neo gothic, palladian etc. It has a strength that gives one a feeling of permanence but also beauty of form so one wants to wander in the gardens amongst it's shadows.

what a cool comment and description of the building, not only do you have a way with Art you also have a way with words

Great shots of a cool building @tattoodjay. I like that the surrounding city is all older style buildings also. No all glass modern stuff.

I find this an impressive area to walk through :-) Gorgeous buildings and as you captured in the picture they light up almost golden as well :-) Lots of treasures in beautiful Brooklyn! (Greenwood cemetery is high on my treasure list for example <3)

howdy tattoodjay! that is one fine, stately building there. Ya'll have alot of great old buildings in New York City though. or is it not NYC? is Brooklyn a different city or a borough? I don't know city stuff.

yes Brooklyn is one of the 5 boroughs of NYC, the most populous one i believe

oh ok thank you JJ but you live way outside of all that where it's more suburban like?

yes I live out in CT a nice small city more like a town :) and lots of beaches

thank you JJ, well it sounds like a really good place to be, (especially with the beaches)not that I'm against cities but they aren't for me.

Yeah I hate big cities myself so when I retire I doubt i will ever head back to the city again

oh really? but they do have fascinating sights and people and places to see, I think most people find them exciting and for you they provide all that posting material!

Yeah that is true it is great for photos, but I actually prefer nature shots seascapes and landscapes more and when I retire I may well move to MA to be near the kids
