By its definition taken from merriam-webster.com it is as follows:
an act of giving particular attention.
In my own personal opinion, I do not think respect is something earned.
I believe it to be a seed sown that will either thrive or die based on its soundings.
And thus my respect is something that is given at first, and it will either lessen or grow based on another’s treatment.
Often I see people do things for others, because they desire others to do the same for them. This is an external respect. This is how it ought to be on a digital platform.
Steemit has created an environment to allow this. Due to block chain technology everything that is said will remain. There are many avenues of support, which builds the community/platform.
Due to bots being put into play for plagiarism, this allows everyone to put thought into their actions and content. Everyone works to towards a common goal and by respecting others, it will be worth your while to be a helping hand, rather than trying to be destructive.
There are so many posts out there on how to grow and many whales to guide you, especially once they see your earnest.
On another note, I would like to mention to have self-respect as well.
I am sure on every other post there will be someone commenting ‘follow back’, ‘please follow and up vote me and I’ll do the same for you’, etc. Now even though there is nothing wrong with this, I see it as a sort of digital begging. I don’t think I would have any issue with up voting or following anyone, if they are posting something that appeals to me.
So I pose a question for all to ask themselves that beg on the digital: if my post doesn’t interest others, or if it seems like there was little effort from myside, why would I deserving a follow or up vote?
I know that we all have something to offer that will appeal to others and once we express it on this platform I am sure that you will be found by the ones that identify and appreciate your work.
