Li-Fi : What Future Holds

Security. This networks are much more secure due to the directionality, as intercepting them becomes much more complicated. For example, your neighbours won’t be able to steal your Li-Fi, something which can’t be said for Wi-Fi.The data transmission speed. These networks allow large volumes of data to be transmitted between devices. As an example, you could send avideo from your BQ to a television, or quickly copy a harddrive, just by pointing the phone to the TV or hard disk like a remote control. In fact, remote controls use something similar to Li-Fi which uses infra-red light. The disadvantages of Li-FiEach room needs to have its own connection. Being light-based, Li-Fi can’t travel through walls. It doesn’t work outdoors or in direct sunlight. The range is around 10 metres and it cuts outwhenever something gets in the way of the light beam, as you can see in this video. In order to work, the lights always need to be on, so until it is developed further, it will only be used for places like large factories or offices were the lights are always kept on.The smartphone: Li-Fi’s main allyFor devices to be able to connect using Li-Fi, they need tohave LED light sensors, preferably at the front. At the moment, however, these sensors are too big and too heavy to be included in mobile devices. It seems that Li-Fi and Wi-Fi are set to coexist for now. This is good news for users, as it will increase the efficiency of the network and provide increased possibilities.
