As of Tuesday, April 25th, WhatsApp has launched a new feature that allows users to log into the same account on up to four devices simultaneously. This means that individuals can access their WhatsApp account on multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, or computers. The multi-device feature is available globally to all users, and will soon be available to a wider audience. According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, this feature has been highly demanded by WhatsApp users. The new technology synchronizes messages across devices while maintaining end-to-end encryption protection, ensuring the security of private messages, media, and calls. If the primary device is inactive for an extended period, the account will automatically sign out from the other companion devices. To use WhatsApp on four devices,
Android users can select
• More Options and tap Linked Devices,
• then tap Multi-device and Join.
For iPhone users,
• select WhatsApp Settings and tap Linked Devices,
• then tap Multi-Device and Join.
Users will need to scan a QR code from WhatsApp Web to connect.
A phone number can also be entered on WhatsApp Web to receive a one-time code that can be used on the phone. This feature will be available to both individual and business accounts and Meta hopes to expand this feature to include more companion devices in the future.
