Great article, something everyone that uses "free" apps should be aware of. Now the question becomes which companies do you feel you can trust with the data they have on you, because at this point with so many companies collecting data it is nearly impossible to avoid having yours collected. BTW...

Hi @mk40 and @ocd, of course you can share! Great pieces you already shared; I'm following you now :)
Regarding your very valid comment: indeed people should ask themselves which companies they trust with their data. Unfortunately, you won't always know with which 'third parties' these companies share your data like Niantic does.
Another issue is that companies buy and sell databases. The real value lies not the information you provide in your profile, but all the other information that company can acquire about you by simply buying or combining databases. I'll write another article about that soon.

Wow, that's incredible. A very well written piece. The more I read about this the more I wish I could throw my phone into the trash! To me that now represents luxury. If I ever become rich I will know it when I can get rid of my phone with no consequences!

65 million active users a month is a lot! The Netherlands only has 17 million people for example :)

It's an interesting world we live in where personal data itself is actually a currency. Nicely said.

Nothing is truly free in this commercialized world.
Using Facebook and Google products are supposedly costing you indirectly, where information about you, i.e. interests, behavioral tendencies etc. are analyzed, aggregated and sold to third-parties that will end up tailoring advertising to make you buy.
In the end, you end up spending more than if you just avoided these "free" services.

Great article. I had even read somewhere that one of the big reasons that Donald Trump won the election was because of data collected from all these free apps used to predict who will vote for him, who won't and the best strategies to use based on the user data. If I find that article again I will share it here.
