Chinese Cops Using Smart Glasses With Facial Recognition!!! The Roaring 2020s Are Going To Be SO EXCITING I IMAGINE!

I just read in Technology Review (https://www.technologyreview.com/the-download/610214/chinese-cops-are-using-facial-recognition-specs/) that an already prevalent technology allowing facial recognition in Chinese crowds has now been added to Smart Glasses that officers can wear. Smart Specs made by LLVision allow 10,000 pictures of suspects in an offline database to be cycled through and matched/tested against in around 100 milliseconds; this allows an officer to confirm whether or not they have the right perp. To start, they'll be used to monitor busy crowds during the Lunar New Year which is coming up. 7 wanted criminals and 26 people with fake IDs have already been captured using the tech. This will help improve tracking/evidence-gathering tremendously in comparison to the lacking and outdated CCTV cameras that are used currently. I am so excited to see what the new Roaring 20s (2020s) are going to hold for innovation, not to mention the next couple of years as we approach it!

These glasses' Augmented Reality (AR) tech will also provide information 'on screen' to the police officers and other users who wear/purchase these. The glasses are very light, allowing officers to wear them all day (https://www.newscientist.com/article/2160591-chinese-police-use-face-recognition-glasses-to-catch-criminals/); some of the fugitives captured with the glasses were wanted for alleged involvement with human trafficking. The big question is just how pervasive technology, especially AR and VR (for training), will become in the Law Enforcement world. I imagine that it will change a LOT!
