I hate lying shits.
Jet Blue contradicted themselves in just that little bit that you relayed.
We don't keep your pictures, but we do send them to someone who is keenly interested in keeping your pictures, and whomever is our "partners".
Further, the police do not have a picture database of any bad guys.
They have pictures of men who have gotten behind on their child support payments.
They have pictures of people who have unpaid fines.
They many have pictures on people who have skipped bail.
They have pictures of people who have unpaid taxes.
Most murders either have a blatant suspect, or are not even investigated.
Most burglaries don't have a suspect.
Most homicides don't have a suspect.
And facial recognition is REALLY bad at trying to find a person from a sketch.
Lastly, everyone has a double out there. One guy has been arrest three times for looking like someone they were after. (detected by facial recognition)
So, this is just to terrify good people.
I agree with some of these points - it seems the more serious crimes are often ignored. I have sometimes seen that the police will fine the man in the fancy suit who rides his bicycle to work without a helment (violation) but not the homeless man who poops on the sidewalk (also violation). The reason reason the police focus on the first is because obviously he can afford to pay the fine, but not the second. Not fair. This techonology could be used for targeting generally good citizens with extra cash instead of the generally poor big offenders. It is a money making project for the police, and their partners.
