Martti: self-guided auto system capable of driving in all conditions

in technology •  7 years ago

Despite the rapid development of technologies in the field of creating autonomous cars, almost all of them have one significant drawback: to move them you need a smooth road, the presence of signs and good road markings. And researchers from Finland developed a new system of autonomous vehicles called Martti.

Naturally, Martti is able to drive the car in urban conditions. Behind the car is a lidar to control the traffic situation. In addition, the system carries a host of other sensors like radar, rangefinder and optical cameras.

According to the creators of the system,

"We set a new world record for a completely autonomous control system for a car that drove at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour to snowfall, and even on a snow-covered road. On the road can not see the markings, while the car could go and faster, we just decided to be reinsured during the first test run. Now we are working on another system that can drive a car without roads at all, for example, in the forest or on rough terrain. In the spring of 2018, we plan to begin testing this system. "
