Unboxing and Review of the Waterpik Whitening Water Flosser (WF-06)

Dear Steemit Friends,

Taking good care of your mouth, teeth and gums is something many people overlook. Good oral and dental hygiene can help prevent bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease - and can help you keep your pearly whites as you get older, which I assume is something most of us want to do. Aside from the obvious benefits of dental upkeep, brushing and flossing on a regular basis may help you ward off medical disorders such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and preterm labor. Your mouth can tell you a lot about what is going on with your body. It can be a signal for detecting early signs of more than 90-percent of all systemic diseases such as AIDS or Diabetes, which often show symptoms such as mouth lesions and other oral problems.

As a child, I regularly used floss and on occasion a water pic after brushing my teeth. It was a safe and refreshing way to both hydrate and clean my mouth, not to mention fun! As I grew older, I continued to floss, but the novelty of the Water pick slowly went away and I eventually stopped using it.

Like most things, technology in oral hygiene has continued to advance and Waterpik as a company has continued to produce new hardware and products to help people maintain a healthy mouth. I have been looking to purchase one of these for a long time, but have failed to pull the trigger - that is until a couple of days ago. With a couple of Gift Cards in hand, I decided to finally purchase the Waterpik Whitening Water Flosser. I chose this model not only because of its ability to potentially clean my mouth but also because of the built-in tooth whitening function.

While I was contemplating between this device and the Black version, I looked over some of the reviews. Both if not all of Waterpik's devices had high ratings and great reviews overall - this is always a good sign. Any negative reviews were all about the ability and difficulty to purchase accessories and refills for the device, which I think were unfounded since they are available almost everywhere that the device is sold. The remaining lower reviews were all given because they had not run the full 30-day course of the whitening program and were waiting to see the results before updating.

Below is my unboxing and demonstration video on both DTube and Youtube.

As you can see, the packaging is nice, but there is not much to it. The Device sits comfortably in the box and is held in place using a few cardboard inserts. It comes packaged with the following items.

  • Waterpik Whitening Professional Water Flosser
  • 30 Fresh Mint Whitening Tablets
  • 2 Classic Whitening Jet TIps (WJT-2E)
  • 1 Orthodontic Whitening Tip (WOD-2E)
  • 1 Plaque Seeker Whitening Tip (WPS-2E)
  • Tip Storage Case
  • Instruction manual and warranty information

Assembly is easy and requires you to just place the water reservoir on top of the device and then cover using the Tip Storage case, which also serves as the lid for the device.

According to the Waterpik website, the device

Delivers precision whitening while you water floss. It restores your natural whiteness in just 4 weeks by removing hard-to-reach stains that other products miss. It’s proven to remove an additional 25% more stains than brushing alone, provides all the clinical benefits of water flossing, and is as gentle as regular toothpaste.

The Whitening Infuser Technology expertly mixes water with a gentle stain removal agent that safely restores your natural whiteness, removes plaque, and promotes healthier gums.

After about a month of usage, it's not only supposed to help make your mouth cleaner and healthier but also improve the brightness of your smile by removing more plaque and stains than normal brushing alone. This device is ideal for those of us who don’t want to use harsh bleaching chemicals or pay for expensive regular teeth whitening treatments.

As soon as I set up the device, I was ready to use it. I must admit the first round was a bit of a messy experience. A word of advice for those of you who have never used one of these before - Make sure you turn on the reservoir feeder only and wait to turn on the pik until you are ready and have it in your mouth. I made the mistake of turning both the reservoir feeder and the pik at the same time and I pretty much sprayed water all over the vanity mirror. Because the water stream is so strong (even on the lowest setting) water splashed off the mirror all over the place.

Once I got the water back under control I put it in my mouth and started to use it. Another piece of advice for those of you who have sensitive gums - set the power at 2, which is the lowest, because as you can see from the video above, the water stream can be very powerful. I found it somewhat difficult to tell if I was using the device right because I could not see or feel where the water was spraying. I had to lean over the sink face down because as soon as I lifted my face to see where the water was shooting, it would splash off my teeth and spray all over the mirror.

I will say that once you get the hang of it, using the device is not so difficult. You learn to feel out where you are spraying the water and can target between your teeth and across the surface to remove any plaque and leftover food from your mouth. The Waterpik works fairly well. It removed pretty much everything stuck between my teeth and unlike what is stated in some Amazon reviews has a light fresh minty taste that isn't too strong. If you can eat a mint, the strength of the tablets flavor is easily a lot less overwhelming.

Cleanup is an easy task. All you need to do is rinse the piks and empty the reservoir. Once done, leave it to dry overnight.

The device is made up of plastic but feels like a very solid and sturdy piece of equipment. The cable retains its shape and recoils back in for easy and convenient storage. I haven't seen any complaints about the quality or build and no one has reported any issues with the device failing or breaking. The only downside I can find so far for the device is the noise. It is loud and sounds almost like a running lawnmower. I wouldn't recommend using this near someone who is sleeping because they will definitely wake up.

So far I like the device and like most people, have only positive things to say about the job it does cleaning my mouth. If you want the best price for the product I would recommend buying it from your local target. It is currently on sale for around $72 and comes with a $5 gift card with your purchase. On Amazon, the same device runs for around $90.

If you are in the market for a Water flossing device that is reasonably priced and offers great results in cleaning and refreshing your mouth, I would highly recommend the Waterpik Whitening Water Flosser WF-06. I hope you enjoyed the unboxing and review of this product and I look forward to your questions, inputs, and feedback. Please leave me a comment below.

Hey, my name is M3, and I'm giving you an upvote, and a subscribe. Me and my community of followers are trying to kill YouTube, and make DTube bigger and better than any other video site. YouTube doesn't reward creators like they deserve, so we're all helping each other out. Anyway, keep going! What we're doing really is the way of the future.``

Thanks. Yep, DTube is definitely gaining ground and will eventually overtake Youtube! Thanks for the support.

great post! :^D

this looks harmful to your gums tho, this is very recommended to braces users and people or nonfunctional disordered teeth

Thanks! It's only bad for your gums if you set it to the highest setting. At the lowest setting it's not bad at all.
