Hi fellow Steemians!

Samsung Indonesia has unveiled the anticipated Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus on their website (uncertain if it's a mistake or intentional).

The A6 and A6 Plus models will slot beneath the A8 and A8 Plus lineup. The phones unveiled today are lower-mid tier phones.

My thoughts

Generally, I like the look of both handsets. Both featuring 18.5:9 ratio screen is great as people can enjoy flagship-level design feature on cheaper phones. It seems to have enough of what entry / mid-level phones should have.

The processors shouldn't be a problem for everyday tasks. I am a little disappointed by the 3GB RAM for A6. I also don't like the fact that Samsung is removing features on their smaller phones (like not implementing dual cameras). They did this with the S9 series too.

There are two main criticisms I have with these phones.

  1. The price.

It's not final yet, so I can't comment too much but if the rumours are true, then what is Samsung thinking? We have companies like Xiaomi and Huawei offering much better phones at similar or lower prices. Samsung really needs to stop depending on its brand value and start providing cheaper but better alternatives for consumers.

  1. The name.

It's been more than 10 years since Samsung first released an Android phone and I feel like they still don't understand their own naming scheme. I thought they had a good system with having A3 / A5 / A7 for mid-rangers and J3 / J5 / J7 for low-end phones. Now It's A8 and A6? Why?

I hope these phones are cheaper than their rumoured prices. Otherwise, Samsung doesn't really have much chance even if their phones are pretty good.
