McDonalds to Install Automatic Kiosks

in technology •  7 years ago  (edited)

With the advent increase of robots and automation creeping its way into day-to-day society this comes to me as no surprise, local supermarkets in my area have already done this a few years ago. In my rather laymen and likely naive opinion, I think this is inevitable, though its still important that society as a whole caters for the possible increase in unemployment, as factory workers, tradesmen and eventually even surgeons find themselves made more and more redundant with the march of technology.

Read more about it here: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/20/mcdonalds-hits-all-time-high-as-wall-street-cheers-replacement-of-cashiers-with-kiosks.html

What industries do you think will also be effected by this? Whether positive or negative, I'd love to hear your opinion.

In Hong Kong, McDonald's already have such kind of automatic kiosks and this is a good to see how McDonald's makes use of technology! But pretty sure it will even do better for McDonalds to even invest more resources in the frontier tech like machine learning to explore the new businesses that it may be able to bring!

This has already beeen implemented in alot of australian stores, when they rolled out the create your burger menu. in my opion its good if you want to make a customer burger using any ingredient they have to offer. they are never busy though everyone still prefers to line up and order at the cashier, bearing in ind the kiosks do not accept cash. if you want to pay by cash you take your reciept to the cashier anyway.

On a side note, since McCafe is such a success in Aus you can now order from an app before you get there which is pretty cool.

Every time I try to build my own burger on one of those things, it ends up costing me like $20, I gotta' stop going overboard with the flourishes

Hahaha me too. so many cheese options its dangerous.

every industry in the world will be affected by robots. I think in 50 years time maybe only 5% of the population will have a job.

Whether the other 95% are in a technological utopia, or utter poverty is something I suppose will all depend on the decisions our leaders make in the present, moving forward.

if our leaders are going to be making decisions................ then we are fucked
