WhatsApp Ordered to stop sharing user data with Facebook

in technology •  7 years ago

WhatsApp has been authorized to stop providing information to Facebook by the French authority "CNIL".

Prior to this Germany had also instructed Facebook to stop collection information from Whatsapp in September 2016 which Facebook consented following similar request from United Kingdom in November last year.

Earlier in May the European Union had fined Facebook for $122 million for the providing deceptive information regarding the acquisition of WhatsApp when they claimed not to able to link user profiles from WhatsApp to Facebook.

CNIL has given WhatsApp a final ultimatum to comply with the order, refusal to take action may see serious monetary consequences.
