Venezuelski predsednik Nicolas Maduro je napovedal uvedbo kriptovalute petro, ki naj bi državi pomagala pri večji monetarni suverenosti, opravljanju finančnih transakcij in premagovanju finančne blokade, s čimer je mislil na ameriške sankcije proti državi.
