It's funny how things work, sometimes.
It's funny how I am both a technology geek and a relic, at the same time. I was among the "bleeding edge" adopters to use the web, and was (and estimate) among the first 250,000 people on the planet to have an email account and a web browser "of sorts."
That said, I often feel out of touch with things.
Or maybe my values are just different.
Evening visitor in our yard...
"They" Don't Do Things Like They Used To!
Perhaps what I am feeling out of touch with is the way the digital age is changing.
I get it. You Vlog because it's "less work" than writing. But for me, consuming your content is more work, because I grew up in an age where speed reading was an essential tool... and I can read and digest the content of a 10-minute Vlog in ONE minute, if it was presented as written words.
But maybe I say that simply because I am used to the written word, rather than the spoken word.
Or perhaps, because I am an introvert, and introverts tend to be more comfortable "in writing" than "verbally."
Then there's the fact that everything seems to be designed primarily to be used as a phone app. Don't get me wrong, I use my phone quite adequately... but the thought of typing out an entire blog post like this on a phone? The HORROR of it! Phones are great for "a quick something," but not for much else.
At least for me. I find the tiny format frustrating. I find it time consuming and awkward to "expand" images to actually be able to see the detail of them. It's a very poor substitute for a 28-inch monitor.
And maybe that's yet another way I am showing my age... I'm more into quality than quick. I'm more into good than convenient.
Red leaf in the evening sun...
I Still Love Technology, Though!
Everything is constantly changing, though. I'm sure it will be only a matter of a few years before we have a whole new form of interface that renders the entire "phone screens are too SMALL" argument moot... heads up projection displays, and so.
What we think of as science fiction today is seldom all that far away from reality.
In the meantime, I'm not getting any younger! I discovered this, today... as I spent three hours pulling weeds in the yard, and realized (very much!) that I am not 29 anymore! When did something as simple as weeding become such an arduous task...?
Well, that's enough "Grumpy Old Man" for now!
Hope you're all having a great week! Sorry I have been somewhat "scarce" for a while; outside life is pretty much eating me alive, these days... and that seems unlikely to change until the end of June. In the meantime, I'll do my best to show up, every now and then...

Yeah...at this point I'm not sure if it's just my preference or it's true that it is really troublesome for me to "read" a Vlog. I literally skip any videos unless they prove that they are worth my time (like 3Blue1Brown's Calculus and Linear Algebra videos, they are really amazing). Probably that's just me...and I'm not really that old...
Sometimes I do type a lot on my phone but it will be with a wireless keyboard, it helps when you're typing a 1000 word essay on the device. Feels weird, but it does give some advantages that an average laptop doesn't really afford to give (incredible battery life, for example) so sometimes I just prefer to hack my way to let it do what I want :P

The external keyboard is an idea I have not yet explored, but maybe I should. It feels a bit counterintuitive though... the whole point of the phone was portability, and having one more piece of gear to track (even a foldable keyboard) just seems annoying... but I should probably look into it. I also looked at voice-to-text, but even though those apps have gotten a lot better,

It's still a little bit more portable than my laptop...my phone can fit into my pocket while my external bluetooth keyboard is just 500 grams (and it's a mechanical keyboard which feels a lot better than normal laptop keyboards, membrane keyboards or other cheap ones can be significantly lighter), throw them in a bag and it's like a super mini workstation :)
Personally I don't really like speech-to-text...like, I never got them to recognize a sentence with 100% accuracy. I even at one point doubted my own talking ability...haha.

You sound like I feel, the big screen proper keyboard, written word with excellent photography makes it fun being behind a proper keyboard.
Fiddling with a phone got me down, predictive text enough to make me throw the phone out the window.
As for garden, pulling weeds has come to an end, they are green so they stay, eventually took one of my brothers advice, have a great day!

Hah! Most of the time I find "autocorrect" more annoying than helpful... so I relate to just wanting to toss the wretched thing into the nearest pond!
The weeds are slowly "winning," I fear... but we're trying to maintain a system of controlled chaos; letting more and more lawn become something akin to "xeriscaping" and putting in some raised beds to grow food.

@denmarkguy, I can completely relate! I don't know if I have the same amount of geek relic cred, but I helped to create a Usenet fan group for a tv show back in 1999, and gained the moniker "InternetG33k" (still have the domain name...lol).
I'd much rather use my keyboard than my phone, and I appreciate quality over quick every day of the week. Speaking of which, I love both of your photos - especially your evening visitor, as I have a bit of an
obsessioninterest in crows and ravens. So this grumpy old lady wishes you well with the craziness of your life at the moment, and I look forward to seeing you pop in from time to time.

Hi @traciyork, simply by merit of having "Usenet" in your vocabulary means to have geek relic cred!
Crows and ravens are very cool... we have lots of them around here. They seem to be fascinating to many of our artists and creative types around here... I just enjoy the photography end of the equation.
Thanks for the good vibes! Just trying to keep an even keel with it all...

Haha I feel your pain and echo the creaking bones!
Having come from a different era and made the transitions to this age through the journey of technology is valuable in and of itself. I remember the bbs days and baud modems and life before phones. I would only create a blog post on this thing if it is late at night and I have to make my daily post with a picture on the phone to share.
Life is eating me up a little and I have not been able to be as consistent but it doesn’t matter much. The blockchain persists and welcomes us when we make it back for a post or a comment.
There is a places for ya relics on the blockchain. What better place to impart our incredible wisdom? ;)

It is interesting just how many paths we all take through this technological maze... And yes, I remember 1300 baud modems and resting the phone handset in the modem cradle!
I'll be back with a little more effort after the end of June (I hope!), but for the moment I'll be a bit "thin." I do love the relative permanence of the blockchain...

Ditto for me too. Technology frustrates me to no end. Probably because it's a love-hate relationship in my world.

I really do think all the tech we have is pretty cool... I guess part of what makes me "old" in the context is that way many use it mostly to create "laziness shortcuts." Therein lies a good bit of my own love-hate relationship with it.
