Chip Shortages Expected to Last Until 2022

in technology •  4 years ago

Just like when we saw a rush on toilet paper last year during the pandemic there are other areas in the market having their own supply disruptions now too.

Chip shortages have been described as the new toilet paper because of the high demand and low supply, a problem that isn't expected to get any better until at least next year.

Companies are trying to work quickly now to create more chips to meet the demand but there is only so fast they can go. It will still take some time for the production to level out and meet that demand, for things to get back to normal.
When will the computer chip supply return to normal?
Right now there are shortages of different kinds of computer chips and that is impacting various industries who rely on those computer chips to do business. It is estimated that the shortages could last until 2022 and that the problem might even get worse before it gets any better.

Now the problem is also fueling a discussion about boosting domestic production of computer chips in the U.S.

Today the U.S. is only producing about 12% of the world's computer chip supply. The shortage is already causing some companies to halt production until the supply can catch up.

While some estimates say we might get back to normal by 2022 others are suggesting it could turn into a multi-year problem.
