Major Japanese Railway Company Looks At Using Robots To Help Solve Common Travel Issues

It might not be very long before travelers in Japan are being helped by robots at the train station.

East Japan Railway Co. is apparently looking at using robots to help to solve some common traveler issues. Specifically, they want to use the robots to help carry luggage, offer directions and assistance to lost travelers, clean the floors, and possible deter and fight crime.

The robots will also be able to speak a variety of languages so that they can assist travelers from all around the world.

Last week, JR East announced the introduction of a robotics company that is going to be looking at designing robots to help travelers navigate their way around the train station.

And East Japan Railway isn’t only invested in train stations either, they are also in the hospitality, technology, and property management industries.

It might not take very long for them to not only roll out the robots at the train station but we might soon see these robots also placed at shopping malls and other venues. There are already multiple areas where consumers have started to come face-to-face with robots in customer service settings.

Robots are already working in hotels, serving food, working in hospitals, and in other settings. JR East started working on the concept for the robots at the train station some time ago but they've only just recently established the company to help their vision become a reality.

Robots have already been placed at some JR East travel service locations, like the Hitachi EMIEW3 robot seen above, that can assist travelers with answering some of their basic travel questions.

In Japan, they've got robots working at banks, airports, restaurants, department stores, hotels, and more. Because of the rapid growth in the way of robot prevalence throughout the country, it's been said that Japan is obsessed with robots. It's no surprise that Japan has been rushing to be the first in the world to be the largest robotics-supported society and they hope this market will reach over $20 billion by 2020.

I think that is a brilliant idea. Technology is here so why not use it and make everyone live easier? They are implementing police robots in Dubai, first one is already in use for few months. I posted it two days ago: https://steemit.com/technology/@noperope/robocop-is-becoming-a-reality

Robots, robots, robots everywhere man ! It's almost scary how fast technologies are advancing. In a few years we might be seeing robots walking down the street everyday if this keeps up :D

Yes, it is scary. And, with Google and other tech giants creating self writing algorithms for artificial intelligence, just makes me wonder if all that Skynet shit can become real one day. Also, the enslavement, bitcoin, and JFK speech before he they offed him. Oh, yeah John Nash's accidental death.

irobot becoming reality lol

So true :D

This is exactly why I tell people that are rude at their service jobs or don't want to be bothered by other people to enjoy working because one day a robot may be doing their job. I enjoy interacting with others and choice to speak to the teller at the bank instead of using the machine.

the day will come where we can just uber an ironman 😎

lol!

Interesting post, I liked it.

Very interesting!

This is when robots are gonna take over lol :P

Robots are the future just like in a movies.

Robots are the future. In the future everyone will be a robot.

Nice post, you got my vote and you can also follow @stevearticlepro

Interesting news about Japanese new innovotion. The Bots' taking over the world...

I mean this in all seriousness but I'll bet by the time I'm old and need hospice care it will be a robot that I end up relying on.

Robotisation growing very fast. In the near future many people will struggle getting the job in their field because of robots. Something to think about.

Haven't seen much robots on my trip in Japan, other than a few demo units in some stores. Also I think Japan is probably the last country that needs any more assistance on aiding lost travelers, navigating there is as clear as can be!

only in japan

That's why I love Steemit... I love travelling and when I see all these wonderful pics from another countries, I want to travel again..!
Thanks a lot for sharing ♥️ Keep posting !

I would be interested to meet a robot-assistant speaking in my native language in a foreign country

I will never trust robots
Terminator.jpg

lol!

Automation is the future and the use of the robots and AI is future. I think that in 20 years we are looking towards autonomus machines and within next 50 years a complete take over by machines. Skynet is not that far away.

That would be more futuristic and Japan would not disappoint in that i guess.

People I admire behind these projects, this is amazing! They must work really hard..

Great post! Thanks for sharing! Looking forward for more!

Let's wait and see=)))

Japan citizens like robot and technologies. It motivated to go ahead.
