Samsung Ready To Unveil Stretchable OLED Display

in technology •  8 years ago  (edited)

Samsung is ready to unveil their new stretchable OLED panel tomorrow at Display Week 2017; being held in Los Angeles, California.

The new 9.1-inch OLED panel has been described as the ultimate product in flexible technology and many are excited to be able to finally catch of a glimpse of it this week.

The display can allegedly stretch about 1.2cm when pressure is applied and according to Samsung even when it is stretched it is still able to maintain a high degree of resolution.

They aren't ready to roll out the product to the market for sale just yet however.

The new technology is still said to be in early development stages and it isn't known exactly when it might finally be realized as a commercial product that is ready to be distributed.

As far as flexible OLED tech, they aren't the only ones either. We might soon see some graphene flexible OLED displays come to market as well, seeing as researchers in South Korea have been researching that technology for some time now.

Other companies have also tried to make their own version of the flexible OLED display, aside from Samsung, like the LG model that has already been unveiled.

Current OLED displays are able to be transformed from one side, say Samsung reps, and this new technology they've established is able to be bent and rolled from both sides.

The 1.2cm distance that the screen is able to be bent at the moment, might not seem like that much but they are still in the early stages of development. This model that they are getting ready to officially unveil tomorrow is being referred to as the world's first stretchable OLED display.

lol!

oh boy the possibilities...

How cool when we can indeed stretch and bend screens. Espacially the OLED is super technology: Black = Black

Graphene: This is one of the latest amazing materials, and will for sure get a LOT of attention in years to come. In the mobile industry they are indeed having a very close eye on its capabilities and what it can do for the mobile devices.

Crazy! Can't wait until we have commercially available nano-tech where you can change the color of your shirt, or the color of your car paint, etc, with the touch of a button - maybe this could help pave the way with other technology options?

i love technology and gadgets and always design and build a few as a hobby and also is my daily job...can't wait to get my hands on that gadget...thanks for the post.

Exchellent post again dear @doitvoluntarily!!
Re-steem this post _)

Are we looking at the new Iphone? Either way take my money :))

This reminds me of your epic Graphene posts on here in your library you have written on the subject!

That looks awesome! This technology has been in the pipeline for quite some time now. I am looking forward to seeing what else they come up with next!

Its crazy how technology in unfolding literally ,
Also forgot to mention thanks for the upvotes man really appreciate the steem!

Too bad the cover glass material will never catch up to the required durability needed for the "bendable phones" that everyone wants. Glass tech has certainly gone far thanks to Corning but there are limits to chemistry and physics.

Looks very interesting :)

@doitvoluntarily
Looks like samsung might just upstage apple on this one! Cool information!

Graphene i think is the best invention of 20th century. Samsung...keep it up

This is awesome, I hope it comes soon
