World's First Skyport For Flying Cars Comes To Miami

in technology •  6 years ago

Developers are increasingly working on making flying cars a reality in everyday life, and now it's reported that the world's very first skyport for flying cars is coming to Miami.

A new building is under construction that is expected to feature a flying car skyport located on the roof that is going to be known as the Paramount Miami World Center. Inspiration for the project allegedly came from the well-known cartoon The Jetsons, the CEO behind the project has admitted that the cartoon inspired him to add the skyport to the residential tower that's now under construction.

Uber and other companies have been working toward plans for flying cars, with hopes that in just a few years time that we might see them arrive on the market as a real transportation alternative.

From Dubai to Japan, Miami and other regions, there are multiple ongoing efforts that are trying to make flying cars a real transportation option for the future.

The skyport or “sky deck” as it's also being referred to, that's being created right now, is expected to top the new 60-story World Center building which is a project that is being headed by developer and CEO D. Kodsi.

"Ever since The Jetsons came out, America’s been talking about flying cars,... It’s something that inspires you, something that you think about when you’re building a project. You’re saying, 'Well, what is the future? What’s going to happen in the future?...You can actually come to your home, land on your roof, and instead of coming in through the lobby on the ground floor, you can access your home from the roof," - Kodsi.

For those regions that are dealing with overly congested highways, he expects that they will be the first to demand this transportation alternative. The new building that's being constructed in Miami at the moment is expected to host at least 500 units when it is finally completed they hope before the end of this year.

A New Era In Transportation

It's expected that flying cars will soon receive certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency. The government in Japan is also reportedly getting serious about potentially becoming one of the first countries to embrace the idea. And Chinese firms have claimed that they're ready to put their flying cars into production this year.

One Singapore company, Neo Aeronautics, admits that they already have plans to launch a single-seat model for a flying car sometime next year in California.

Uber has previously announced plans to build their own rooftop skyports for their flying car network that they're working on, and they hope to start running test flights by next year.

They might sound like bold plans, but many are working hard to see this transportation option become viable within the next decade.
