Human Rights for Robots?

The development of Artificial intelligence opens up economic, social and moral debates today.

Where societies, immersed in their own problems, must now begin to take into account new issues of rights for robotic "entities".

As an example we have the issue developed in the European Parliament which sent a document to the European Commission where it stated that if artificial intelligence becomes as powerful as human intelligence, robots could be objects of civil rights. But in addition, the report warned that artificial intelligence will soon surpass human intelligence, so if a legal preserve is not established to its capabilities, humanity could end up losing control of its destiny.

In this document, it is proposed to classify them as "electronic persons".

Electronic People around the corner.

The "electronic people" as defined above, to the amazement of many, are just around the corner. The development of ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE grows exponentially day by day.

It will not happen long, in which we see in the streets or in the supermarket, Automatons carrying out activities that today we consider clearly human.

What Products could a robot want to buy in a supermarket?

But if you do not think this is possible, we'll give you as an example, the humanoid robot Sophia.

Sophia is a humanoid robot developed by the company Hanson Robótics. It has been designed to learn and adapt to human behavior and work with people.

In October of 2017, she became a Saudi citizen, thus becoming the first robot with a country's citizenship.

I ask you then,

By having the Saudi citizenship can we consider that it has inherent rights of a citizen of a nation?

Ethical Aspect

The developers of Artificial Intelligence will have to make sure that their creations follow a set of ethical rules where robots as electronic people, act in a coherent way to that capacity.

So the famous laws of robotics enter the debate.

1.- A robot can not harm a human being or allow inaction to be damaged.

2.- A robot must obey the orders of human beings, unless it conflicts with the first law.

3.- A robot must protect its own existence, unless it goes against the first two laws.

Do you think these letters could be valid one day?

Would you support its enactment in your country?

There will be a way to safeguard the integrity of these people

The technological advance is so fast that the physical performance of a robot against that of a person.

Then, moral questions, such as:

The physical abuse that a human being can cause to these robots.

Will there be penalties for killing a robot without any cause?

Is sexual abuse by a human to a machine punishable by law?
