I've been testing a couple of wireless charging systems for the iPhone for a few days and I've come to the conclusion that at home, for now, it offers few (or no advantages) over conventional cable chargers. to the electrical network or to the computer a device on which a mobile can be left to be charged. Ok, you do not have to connect the mobile every time you're going to charge it, you just have to leave it on the surface. But you also have to load it in a certain place. An advantage could be that in a home with several compatible mobiles with wireless charging, no chargers would be needed for each terminal. They are placed on the surface and that's it. But, at least in the two systems that I have been using, it should be one at a time.
I have been testing the Wireless Charging Base of Mophie and the Power PAD of MiniBatt. The two systems are compatible with the Qi standard, which is increasingly widespread. In the Wireless Power Consortium created for the development of Qi (read chi) involved Apple, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung ... Although the first Qi charger I tried was the Ikea Varv lamp. Let's see, beyond showing the friends and the brother-in-law who are up to date, I do not see him today much advantage. For more inri the efficiency of wireless chargers is less than the conventional charge. For example, the Mophie model has an efficiency of 70%, that is, it disperses 30%; the MiniBatt gives better figures: 75%. However, it takes much longer to load the same mobile from scratch. In the load tests, an iPhone 8 Plus with the battery fully discharged and without activity has taken three hours in the case of the first brand and five and a half hours with the MiniBatt mouse pad. The Mophie charger includes its own power supply with a 1.3-amp output, while the MiniBatt's comes with just one USB cable and accepts inputs of up to one ampere.
The proposals are quite different. The charger of the Californian Mophie is a cylinder of 97 millimeters in diameter and 11.5 high with the outer rubber cover, which makes the mobile is stable and does not slip from the surface. Its great advantage is that it is compatible with fast charging and supplies 7.5 watts, which is why it puts the iPhone 8's battery in full in three hours. It costs 65 euros and, although it is announced as compatible with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X; also it is with terminals with wireless charging capacity of Samsung, LG and Google, as well as those equipped with Mophie charging housings. MiniBatt is a Spanish company that has been manufacturing external batteries and chargers of all kinds for years. What surprised me most in his day was an external battery for electronic devices that, at the same time, could start a car that had been left with its battery to zero. As was logical, as soon as we started with the wireless charge they also got down to work. The system that I have been testing is the PowerPAD, a 30 x 20 cm mousepad that serves as a surface for the mouse and for charging the mobile. It is Qi compatible and allows charging mobiles such as the iPhone and the latest generation Samsung. It has no fast charge, but, in exchange, costs 25 euros.
I was wondering about this! I should consider getting a wireless charger for my iPhone, because I have to keep buying new cables, because I kink the cord near my phone and they stop working. I have bought soooooo many charger cables! If I have a wireless charger, maybe it would last longer. But maybe not? You've given me food for thought.
