Do you want the 'Good News' or the 'Bad News' first?
Okay, so I just feel compelled to write this. The FUTURE might need our help faster than we think...
I am a HUGE optimist, but I'm feeling a growing concern. And it's coming on FAST.
I'm just going to shoot straight from the hip.
I believe the future is going to need our help faster than we think. Why?
Do you want the 'Good News' or the 'Bad News' first?
*********************************************************************************************
THE GOOD
Well, for quite some time now we are seeing the rapid, exponential, changes being made with technology. This technology is all fine and good and many believe this can usher in an age of 'technological nirvana' or 'abundance'.
No, don't get me wrong...this sounds wonderful!!! - But, are we being a little naive?
I'll let you be the judge.
*********************************************************************************************
THE BAD
You see, while the optimists keep us focused on the prize ahead of us, it seems to me that very few are "PRACTICALLY" addressing what others are calling "technological unemployment" or as I'll phrase it "potential misery, mayhem, and madness for the masses."
*********************************************************************************************
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE TRUTH
Okay, well we've probably all heard this before.
Here is the truth...
The "Truth" lies somewhere in between.
*********************************************************************************************
So, we might have technological nirvana or abundance...
OR maybe the TRUTH lies right in the middle
OR we might have massive technological unemployment...
<3 <3 <3 <3
I don't know about you all, but it seems to me that we should do everything in our power to avoid the BAD and strive for the GOOD. But, are we doing enough to make this happen?
There are a lot of great leaders out there attempting to make the GOOD happen, but it seems to me that the pace of exponential change is perhaps coming faster than even our best futurist organizations and leaders can prepare the world for. The reason I say this is because even the very futurists themselves that are advocating the GOOD are acknowledging that the TRANSITION may not be smooth sailing for everyone.
The argument of technological unemployment...
There seem to be two sides again perhaps the truth is in the middle.
One viewpoint is that YES, technology will cause unemployment, BUT new jobs that we can't even conceive of at the moment will come into existence to replace the old ones.
So,NO, nothing to be concerned about.
The other viewpoint is that NO, technology will unemployment, BUT new jobs that we can't even conceive of at the moment will come into existence to replace the old ones, BUT there will be too little, too late. Essentially, the PACE of change will just be so rapid that even new jobs won't be created fast enough.
So, YES, we are concerned (and perhaps you should be too).
Here's my 2 cents...
We are all trying to SURVIVE. (and hopefully THRIVE!)
There are a few ways to survive.
Work for someone else (employee).
Work for yourself (entrepreneur).
Let others work for you (gov't).
The skills required to be an employee are different than that required to be an entrepreneur. It takes entrepreneurs to create new opportunities for new employees.
If traditional jobs get replaced, will people be able to transition fast enough?
1) Will entrepreneurs create new opportunities for employees fast enough?
2) Will employees be able to become new entrepreneurs fast enough?
3) If not, will government act fast enough? (Ha, this is a joke :)
I'll leave this topic here for the moment.
Get Ready,
the future might need our help...

Yes, thanks @sigmajin. I've read Fede's work!!! He's a smart dude. He's doing very great work - recently I was checking out https://konoz.io -
What I'd really like to know from Fede is this...
"Fede, your book is great. You mention that in the future, robots will steal our jobs, but you say that's OK. - How do we ensure that this will be OK for everyone? How do make sure that the transition to abundance is smooth sailing for everyone? -- And then, I want to ask Fede how I might be able to help or work with him to make sure that we will create the smoothest transition possible to abundance 4 everyone. And then, I should probably just shut up and stop talking and let him speak and see what he has to say :)
@sigmajin, thanks for reading what I wrote and thanks for the comment -
p.s @sigmajin, haven't I seen you around Steemit before? Were you doing something with investing/trading?

Here's a Steemit post that @federicopistono posted regarding technological unemployment.
https://steemit.com/life/@federicopistono/visioneers-or-how-to-stop-complaining-and-start-fixing-global-problems
Here's a snippet:
"In my team Future of Work, the job was a lot tougher. The subject is so broad and complex that it has ramifications far beyond a single objective, there is a lot of systems thinking involved with non-trivial consequences down the road, which are highly unpredictable. There is solid research, including from my own work, suggesting that within the next two decades about 50% of all jobs will be automated, with relatively few new occupation being created (maybe 5%), with a net loss of 45% of jobs that will be irreversibly lost. In addition, we are seeing the gradual disappearance of the middle class and a rise in corporate profits, while median income has flattened or in many cases decreased, widening the income gap, and increasing inequality at an alarming rate, with no sign of slowing down."
Looks like I just got a few answers to my questions, lol :)

I don't think robots will be able to very soon replace humans. There are thousands of jobs that require something robots will probably never posess. Instinct. You can build an A.I. but you can't make it instinctive in the way humans are. Sometimes you have to go with a hunch. Computers are logic machines and there for incapable of a gut feeling. So don't worry too much. Put your Stephen Hawking book away and go fishing.😀🐟

hey @matthewtii I'll agree with you on putting the books away and going fishing :)
I think we all need to be reminded of this more often, so I'm glad you mentioned that here.
As for trusting my gut, going with my "hunch" - my hunch tells me that this stuff is going to happen much sooner than we think.
My litmus test on when a robot will take a certain job is "EMOTION" - very similar to what you are saying. Humans have instincts. We are emotional creatures. So, yeah I'd say our logic is going the way of the computer - but, as long as our work requires human touch and emotion, I think we've got a bit more time (but, my hunch still tells me that it might not be that much time, so...)
So, all the more reason to put those books away!!!
Your Turn. Go Fish!

@matthewtiii
Have you seen those fishing lures that you plug into USB port and supposedly, well this is how I saw it advertised, they work well to attract fish.
Anybody use this?
Geez, even the worms are out of a job. Thanks technology! :-)

In my opinion the first industry that will automate is.....fast food.
Imagine how much faster a robot can make the food, serve the food, and deliver the food to the window. Most of the fast food places make things pretty stupid proof so the food gets out faster. They have been working toward this end for many years. Just look at how many automated machines they have already in use. All with the thought of using less labor, reduce training time, and giving better, faster service. There would never be a wait for the ding dong who is texting their friend slowing the process down or other employee issues to deal with. Think of how many jobs this permanently eliminate.

By the way, I think Arby's roast beef sandwiches are awesome! When you mentioned fast food, I just started dreaming of an Arby's roast beef sandwich :-)
