The largest fund of technological start-ups SoftBank Vision Fund, the head of Amazon Jeff Bezos and chairman of the board Alphabet Eric Schmidt have invested $ 200 million in the company Plenty, which is engaged in the development of smart farms. This is reported by TechCrunch.

Eric Schmidt and Jeff Bezos made investments through their firms Innovation Endeavors and Bezos Expeditions respectively. The round also involved the venture capital company DCM, which already funded Plenty earlier.

Plenty - the company-creator of vertical "smart" farms. The peculiarity of these farms is that their yield is 530 times higher than that of conventional fields. According to representatives of Plenty, the company grows vegetables without chemicals and pesticides, and their price is comparable to other organic analogues.

The funds raised will help the start-up to begin global expansion. Now Plenty has two farms - in South San Francisco and Laramie, Wyoming. The company plans to begin deliveries in 2018.
