I remember seeing a 3D food-printers a few years ago and wondering how this technology hasn't been applied to mainstream markets yet.

I know some analysts think that 3D printing was a fad which failed, but there are so many applications for this technology that can be capitalized on that I can't imagine the market being anywhere near the end of its expansion.
