At the moment you may be reading this article via your affiliate Wi-Fi network. But it will change like anything in the world of information. Next-generation wireless networking technology Li-Fi was used for the first time in a consumer product. Moreover, a very nostalgic method is used in the background.
Is Wi-Fi technology a bit more annoying? I want to use a Wi-Fi network but do not want to use Wi-Fi? For now, though it is not an alternative, it will soon be. It was time for you to visit the infrared wireless internet technology.
This technology, which is actually called Li-Fi, is not new. A company called Oledcomm has been living this technology for the first time in a device that will be offered to consumers. You get a lamp and internet connection plugged into the USB port of your product computer named MyLiFi with this lamp.
Even though the idea of connecting internets with a lamp is primitive, there are important differences from Wi-Fi technology. MyLiFi, which you can control from connected applications on your smartphones, can be automatically lit when the sun goes down.
But the internet connection of the device is not provided with visible light waves. Instead, there is a small circle in the body of the product with stylish design that is responsible for an infrared light transfer that the human eye can not perceive. You can basically see this as a fiber optic cable. So the internet connection that comes to your house with the light from the fiber optic cables is reaching you without being converted into standard wired data or radio signal.
The antenna ratios in the design of the product are purely visual. Since today's computers are not built to provide network connectivity over infrared lights, you need to connect it to your computer to be able to transfer data from the lamp.
Once connected to the computer, the Internet connection is completed in seconds, allowing you to reach a maximum of 23 Mbps. The speed of this product introduced at the Fakar CES fair was slowed consciously.
What are the advantages of Li-Fi compared to Wi-Fi technology?
While introducing MyLiFi product, Oledcomm focuses on two main differences. The first is that radio signals are far from harmful to health. If you are worried about this, it will not happen in the future. Because Li-Fi works with infrared rays instead of radio signals like Wi-Fi that will replace it.
Another key difference is that the obstacles blocking the walls and Wi-Fi signals must be used more functionally in this technology. So connecting to another Li-Fi network is quite difficult, with extra security options provided to the user. But we can see this as a disadvantage when the obstacle is the case. Because you need to see the direct source of your lamp in order to make a connection.
Li-Fi technology is quite clear to be developed, even if the users are limited in the area of motion. Choosing this technology instead of an Ethernet connection can provide a safer network experience.
MyLiFi is one of the most interesting products to be seen at CES 2018 and is trying to reach the $ 50,000 target through the Indiegogo site. Although MyLiFi finds buyers from 840 USD at the moment, it seems difficult to spread alone.
wow that's awesome
