Get a 2nd “Free” Cellphone Number for your iPhone Using an Email Account

There’s a platform that is created by a technology startup in Los Angeles that allows you to pick a cellphone number easily and conveniently.

The company is called FreedomPop and it’s one of those disrupting companies with the goal to provide a fair and reasonable prices to consumers as well as flexibilities in choosing their plans (unlike Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc). The screenshot below shows the FreedomPop App (iOS):

If this is your first time using the application then you may see the login page instead. By clicking on “Get a 2nd number for your iPhone” it directs you to the registration page, which allows you to choose a username and password and then to verify your email using a verification code (as shown below). It then gives you a range of phone number selections based on the state and city you have chosen:

In the case you already have a number through FreedomPop, but you want to transfer your number to a new one, you can do that through FreedomPop website for a fee of $4.99. The Only thing you need to do is to select your desired state and city and it lists the available numbers for that location (as shown below). It takes couple of days to have your number transferred and they will email you as soon as the transfer is completed.

The FreedomPop App works with WiFi, and as long as you use your home or coffee shop internet you can make and receive calls through your designated number. If you want to use your phone outside your home or anywhere without internet access you can do a one-time purchase of a device from the company such as the one shown below and carry it wherever you travel:

FreedomPop also offers very affordable plans. The service is completely free if you only use 200 voice minutes and 500 texts (with no data plan). The data plans starts from 500 MB for $3.99.
